I think the Z400 is the best all-around machine. Excellent handling and descent power (the engine hops up real nice). Reliability is excellent as well.

The R is geared real tall, so putting around at low speed isn't what this machine is best at (although a front sprocket change might help that?). First gear at idle is 15 mph, and the motor likes to be ridden revved out, so slow riding requires some clutch work. The 06 is supposed to have more trail friendly gearing, but I have not ridden one yet.

Of my bikes, I choose the 400EX for real tight semi-technical trails (you can lug it down and ride slow), the Z for more open trails (it is a little more of a revver), and the screaming R for the open desert (although the desert can have nasty technical trails too).

This is my opinion as well. It will not have as much power as your Rappy, but plenty reliable power to have fun on. Especially when you pipe it and open up the air box.

thanks for the help. i know all of the quads you guys mentioned are good reliable trail quads. and high gearing wouldnt be a problem for me because my raptor has its stock gearing and with the clutch out in 1st your doing about 8-12 mph.
thanks again

I would think your Rappy is just about the perfect thing for Tug Hill. Personally, I wouldn't ride Tug with my lid off, as most of the time it is DUSTY. The nasty, fine, filter infiltrating crap that could wreck an unprotected engine quickly. If you are just sticking mainly to the roads, I could see the DS650 being a huge hit up there. Followed by the Predator, 700Raptor, and any of the 450's. I've only ridden Happy Valley, but it is much like Tug Hill from what I have heard, and just a few miles down 81 anyway. Had a blast on the ole YFZ out there this summer. Other than getting caught behind some pokey utes for a bit, I am usually 1/2 throttle or better the whole day so low end is not really an issue.
