Oil Change Information
#1
I have two Polaris ATV's both needing oil changes. In the past I was able to have a service center do it for me but now that I live in a small town I don't have easy access to a shop. Yesterday While traveling I bought the oil filters, oil, air filters, and new spark plugs and need to do the work today to be ready for an annual camping trip/trail ride scheduled for Friday.
I had assumed that the oil change would be easy but after getting home and pulling out the tools, it looked to me more involved than I thought.
Any helpful tips or hints anyone has would greatly appreciated. I bought both used and do not have an owner's manual for either.
I have a 2000 Trail Boss 325 and a 1998 Magnum 425 both are two wheel drive.
Thanks again for any assistance.

I did find the Polaris site and now i am trying to download the information. So far my computer has not been able to do it succesfully. I will keep working on it. Thanks for responding.
If i can't find the step-by-step instructions i think i can still figure it out but i was concerned about making an avoidable mistake. Just reading about "priming the oil pump" caused some fear. I wouldn't think that would be necessary for an oil change but wanted to be sure.
Thanks again,

you dont have to worry about priming the oil pump, unless you leave the oil out of it overnight.
# 1 remove drain plug and drain the oil.
# 2 re-install the drain plug and new o-ring.
# 3 remove oil filter
# 4 lube o-ring on new filter and re-install.
# 5 find oil chart in your manual or on web and fill with correct amount of oil
done
i believe your manual will tell you that priming the pump is not nessasary.
i am not a dealer or 100 % sure on your model so check

warm up the engine for 3 to 5 minutes to thin out the oil before you drain... take off the oil filler cap before the drain plug and leave both cap and plug off until oil slows to a drip... replace plug and take off the filter while leaving the filler cap off... replace the new filter and wet the rubber seal with new oil before turning on HAND TIGHT... fill oil to correct ammound start and idle for 15 seconds and check oil level

Thanks to everyone for the help. This afternoon i went to a relative's house and was able to download the owner's manual from Polaris. In the morning i will change the oil and we should be on the trails by lunch time. We will probably ride for 5-6 hours tomorrow and Saturday. This annual trip is just about the most action my four wheelers ever see so i wanted to make sure they were in top condition.
Thanks again for the help. I look forward to visiting the site again soon.
