Hi all, I'm baaaaaaack. To all of you who read my first installment a while back, congradulations on your wise ways. To those of you who didn't - why not? Enough goofing around (sorry we got some more rain so I am in a good mood). Here is the story in short. I tried changing the primary clutch spring on my Xplorer. Tried Green & White. Settled on the white. Finally get to compare it to my brother's Xpress.
Before the spring change, he would just ever so slightly pull away from me almost from the very start. If I started out in 4-wd I got a jump, but it didn't last long. He also had about 1 mph or so more top speed. Now after switching springs, my seat-of the pants impressions are confirmed. Now I get a jump from the start up to about 50 or so. The only way he could catch me is at the very utmost top speed. Then I put the Uni Filter in (I got it when I got the springs.) Now I not only out accelerate him, I can outrun him top speed, too! To make a long story short, the white spring gained acceleration, with NO loss of top speed. The Uni filter didn't seem to do a lot until maybe 45-50 MPH, when the engine was really revving out. Then it just kept going a little more. Not more than 2 or 3 MPH, but enough so I now have the fastest utility quad in the neighborhood. Hooray for Uni. Looks like I won't have to gear her up after all.

Now if you want more try a violet secondary spring this will help your bottom end take off speed less belt slipage.

Will it slow down my top speed? I now have just what I want, a machine that will outrun my brother's now second-fastest machine. I could always use more oomph, but don't want to lose my 1 or 2 MPH advantage. Would hate to get the jump on him, only to be passed later. Out here we have a LOT of areas acceptable for wide open throttle in High range, sometimes for a mile or more in one stretch.
