Default Paddle Bead problems spinning wheel

I just switched from 22" Haulers to 22" Sand Stars. These Sand Stars are hooking up way too hard. When I mounted them I made sure they were clocked perfectly. I decided to run 8psi....just to see how they work. In 2nd in the sand, you can just ease into the throttle and the front comes right up. Later when I got back home I noticed that one wheel obviously spun on the bead.

Also, the first run up a steep dune by Ogilby, I shifted into 3rd at about 25% of the hill and my rpms didnt change. Then at about 75% the rpms quickly changed. So that "was" my clutch.

Whats the deal? These Sand Stars just hook up too much? Or is it just running so good that I have to upgrade the clutch?

It could be a number of things that causes your clutch to start slipping. I really dont think its the Sand Stars hooking up too much. Although the Stars are some of the best v-paddles made. I dont think that is where your problem is. If the tires are slipping the wheels then you need to get that problem solved first. Run the bike again and see what happens. Try adjusting the clutch and that might help as well. If not, then I would see about replacing the clutch.

Hey BajaX04,

Interesting that the tires are slipping.
I have gone the other way in that I switched from 20" sand stars to 22" Haulers though I only run like 3 lbs of pressure in mine... I beleive the lower the pressure the better the hook up especially in the softer stuff ! I found the Haulers hook up alot better and have never gotten stuck with em.
I have never experanced any tire slip at all on either set.... that's a new one on me.
Just my 2 cents so to speak.

I am sure I am going to get nailed for saying this. I had 22" 8 paddle haulers and I ran the pressure low also and had good results. Now with these 22" "not 20" Sand Stars, it hooks up WAY WAY WAY harder than the 22" Haulers ever did, and way harder than the 20" edges I had. I hope nobody takes my results and thinks I am happy that they hook up this hard. You need tire spin in your launch unless you have an extended swing arm, even then you need some. I gave up on Haulers because I tore 5 paddles off my set. I obviously ride too hard in regular areas when idealy they are for shooting the hill.

I have a friend that I ride with that has 20" sand stars on the EXACT same DS. He doesnt seem to get stuck and we ride virgin sand and very steep hills. I guess at first we all got sick of being stuck, but havent in a LONG time. I wouldnt ever buy a 20" tire ever again. My 20" edges spun so much on launch that I was dragging the carrier in the sand like a snail. Haulers were great, just cant keep them alive too long, plus mine were old and dry.

For all aroud riding, these sand stars are hillarious and a blast trying to control with the front end lofting all the time....I also run a 15t all the time since my first set of 22" tires. Spinning the wheel in the tire....well maybe some rubber cement might help....ya think?

I have a set of 22" 12 paddle extremes that I run when I want to play rather than race. They hook up great and power wheelies with a +4 swingarm. But they don't hook up as good as you are describing the 22" sandstars. I don't see how it is physically possible for sandstars to hook up better than 12 paddle extremes. Your description sounds like you are racing on asphault. It makes me wonder if Choose isn't on to something regarding your clutch. Anyone can ease a clutch out and keep the front end on the ground. I wonder if it is grabbing or something.

Sounds phishy!

I'm sure you probably already thought about this........ If the sand is wet your going to get a lot better hook up, or if the sand is full of moisture. Just a thought

It was very dry out there this weekend and VERY windy. My wheel spinning problem is just that ..."at least I think"...the wheel has moved about half paddle off clock. Not like its turning round and round. Also, the wheelie happy stuff is when I am riding all over the dunes. The clutch slipping was my first hill shot and it was a very steep one, not the regular beaten Ogilby comp hill. It was my second to third shift. I didnt know just how bad it was slipping till 75% of the hill when it finally locked the discs. Thinking just to get a Barnett 9 disc w/60% springs. Not like I will be needing more than that, just will be putting in a 11.5:1 piston in a few days and cams later.

CHange to the RWR 60% springs, and change your oil to Valvoline 20-50 4 stroke oil. Your clutches are probably OK, as long as you didnt shoot the hill over and over and glazed your clutch fibers. Unless you have alot of hours on your engine.

Great to here about the Sand Stars, My brother just asked me this recently what paddle he should buy, and I told him the Sand Stars, But will the 22" rub his Heel gaurds?(04 X)

Bigger.
