Default head trouble

Now it seems that the dealer is having trouble finding a shim so he can get the correct clearance on my valves. Apparently bomb dont have the size i need so he has ordered one from bmw. HE says that my valve seats are worn and possibly if this shim dont fit i may need a head job. What i am asking is whaere to send it and roughly how much to get a stock head freashened up new seats etc.

thanks,
Chiknhawk

shims

This link is to dualstars web site. As you will see the KLR650 also uses the same shims that we do. They are 29mm diameter shims. Tell your dealer. There are also other bikes that use 29mm shims as well.

lol i see i missed the main question.
Not sure of the cost any more but. TVI, RWR, HPR are the boys that come to mind. I went with RWR way back when. But I went with larger valves and had the head porting done. Seems like it was over a grand. But just to get her back to stck shouldn't be but a 3rd or less of that????

Thanks for the info Eagle. THis quad is really costing me a ton of cash, and I barely ride it? Does anyone else have this problem, I ride a couple of days then spend 3-5 hundred bux. I dont race or ride it hard, heck i clean and maintain it regular. It dont seem very reliable. Thanks for letting me whine a little.

But, I can definitely tell you that it HAS BEEN VERY RELIABLE TO SAY THE LEAST. I use and abuse this beast. Its very hard 2nd gear launches constantly. You can talk to anybody who has seen me ride........I LIKE TO RIDE and Ride Hard is what I like to do that most.....pass after pass,

New valve seats is different. It's been a while since I spoke with The Preacher about this work. He may do this. . . can't remember.

If it's more than $375, you may want to talk to guys on the forum. . . I know there are some people that have used heads in their garage.

Start calling and let us all know what the cost is. . . be nice to know.

Not bragging, but I've (knock on wood) never had any major mechanical breakdown of either of my DS650s and spent very, very little on repairs (except for the headlight that I broke with my face.) Now to keep this in perspective, the riding trip I took in late 2000 which was my last riding trip before buying my 2001 DS in January 2001, I brough a Suzuki LT250R and a Kawasaki Mojave - I came home with two broken quds, both due to engine failure. So I know what it is like to spend money repairing stuff. I (like an idiot) spent $1050.00 on a new head and a rebuild for my Mojave, then sold it about a year later for $1350 - I paid $1250 for it and included the paddles I bought for $50. so I was into it for $2500-ish (probably more) and sold it for $1350, sick sick sick... I should have sold it with the blown engine.
