Rancher winter oil change?
#1
Hi all,
I have two '05 Ranchers that me and my son like to ride in the snow. Both seem very sluggish until they warm up, and this takes quite a while. Sometimes if the temp is below 13 or 14 degrees mine never fully "warms up" and will get stuck in a higher gear and not down shift when I stop or slow down. I have to come to a full stop , pause for the little buzzing noise that tells me that the gears have been changed then go ahead and get rolling again from the proper gear.
Would an oil change to a lower viscosity oil help this? Does any one else have this problem? Does any one run two different weight oils depending on the season?
Thanks in advance..........

I ride my 05 Rancher AT in the snow and very cold a lot. It was very cold blooded when I first got it, but now that it has 700 miles on it, it is much better about that.
Also, the only time I hear the "little buzzing noise" is after riding in ESP, stopping without downshifting to 1st, and putting it in Auto. I have never noticed it in other situations. Seems odd that oil viscosity would be impacting it if it will downshift after you've completely stopped, but not when slowing down (now that I re-read your sentence, you sort of contradict yourself -> "...not down shift when I -stop- or slow down. I have to come to a full -stop- , pause..." ) I use Exxon 10W-40 with no "Enery Conserving" on the label.
