Default polaris scrambler

hi everyone. i just stumbled on this forum while researching scramblers. i am thinking about buying one of these machines. The main use will be to plow snow as this is how i am justifying the purchase to my wife. the second (and least important) use will be as a toy. i was wondering if anyone has used these to plow snow with and if they are very capable of doing it. it will only be used to plow about 100 feet of drive way. i talked to the dealer and they claim polaris doesnt recommend plowing with them but i know they make plows for them. I am also on the fence about which motor to go with. i love two strokes for the snap and easy maintenance. i only wonder if the 2 stroke will provide the low end grunt to push snow. also are there any significant changes between years. i would like to stay between 98 and 02. any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

u can use it for plowing snow..but ur definently going to want a 500 4 stroke with 4 wheel drive!

it's a great toy, and i am super satisfied with my scrambler, i'm glad i have it too, i wouldnt recommend using it to plow tho, there just not made for it

if scramblers had a low gear it'd be manageble but they dont, so that kind of creates a problem...

if u did buy one and ended up plowing, just plow when the snow is fresh and light, it should work..but even then, make sure you buy one with 4 wheel drive, you never know when u'll need it on the trails...unless of course ur not riding anywhere near mud

I have a plow on my 00 400 scrambler for a few years and haven't had a problem at all. A friend also has an 02 400 with a plow and no problems. Also, both are 4 x 4's. The 400 is fine regarding "the low end grunt to push snow". Both bikes are stock. I actually used my plow for grading my gravel driveway. Works great.

I had a 99 Scrambler 400 that I used for 1 year plowing snow and had no problem with power at all. The deepest snow I have plowed was about a 1 1/2 feet deep and had no problem.

if its a 2wd you just put some wieght on the rear end and chains, should have no problems.

I have a 99 scrambler 400 2 stroke 4X4 and it will plow snow all day long. Do not buy a 2wd if you plan to plow. Chains work OK but you can't beat 4 wheels pushing the snow that builds up on the plow. Plus you can dump that thing in a mud hole and really see what that 4wd. will do. My only complaint about the generation 3 bikes is the crappy rear braking system. My rear brake hasn't worked in 5 years and my boys trailblazer rear brake hasn't worked since I bought it. But then again you only need brakes if you want to ride like a grandma......he he he he.

It will run with any bike out there. They might get me in top end but they will smell my smoke until we get to the top end. I do all trail riding and have yet to find a better trail bike that has 4X4 for those nice mud holes that you just have to hit instead of going around them.
