I am new to ATV's, and I just bought a 2003 Polaris Scrambler 500 and 2000 Honda 400EX. I was reading some of the other forums on problems with the Polaris Starter. But didn't find my particular problem. When I try to start my ATV the starter turns the engine over once and it seems like it disengages from the flywheel and continues to turn because it just makes a noise like it is turning, but not engaging into the flywheel. Just wandering if anyone out there has any suggestions for what to try. Before it started doing this it was making a clicking sound, and I took all of the connections off, cleaned them and put them back together. Then it started this new problem. Everything is stock on both machines. Haven't had any problems with the 400EX yet.

 

charge the battery, and/or test it. mine will do that if the battery has a weak charge.

sorta, mighta, be the starter drive going out/bad. Charge and check the battery first though!

 

if worse coms to worse then just buy a new starter, then run fior $30 on ebay al day. good luck
