Is it worth double the price for a Honda filter?? A generic filter from Napa is much cheaper and appears identical, is there any difference?? I always run Honda GN4 10-40 oil, is plain old 10/40 any different. I used honda HP4 synthetic oil until i felt my clutch slipping. The oil is too slipery and one of my friends had his clutch go bad becuase of the slipping. I could only detect it at high rpm's on mine. I just want my motor to last THIS TIME. My bottom end is new now because the mother ###### that sold it to me ran it out of oil. IT only cost 300 though for the rod kit and labor, i thought this was pretty good!

here's what i think: NAPA is a GOOD parts line--their standards are very high, and the filter is just as good! as far as oil goes, i dont care what anyone says, Castoroil 10w/40 is as good of an oil made today, especially for small, high-revving engines..does anyone really think that honda personally makes their own oil?? give me a break! ever heard of sub-contracting? lowest bidders?? its ALL in the name, guys..like John Deere, they get one company (the lowest bidder on the contract) to make their oil, and another to make their filters...then get John Deere painted on it, and everyone feels better..all ANY of these companies do is send out bids for different stuff, with certain specs to be met..bottom line: Honda does not have their own refinery, nor do they have their own filter fabrication plant--they get it contracted--so if you can find the same product from another reputable company, go ahead and get it! its just as good if not better...

Genuine Honda filters, $3.95 each, as many as you need, 1-800 number, from Honda of Troy.

HP4 makes the clutch slip because it has moly in it. GN4 doesn't.

Thanks for the advice, yeah HP4 is probably good for your engine but hurts clutch definately. Also I was told by the dealer to use GN4 when i broke in my big bore kit, then go to HP4 if i wanted. I guess non-synthetics are better for break in??? I dunno, do u?
