So we had the ECM module fixed. Just went out to start it this morning and guess what dead again. WOn't even take a charge. I'm sick of it. I bought the ATV at CoveSide Wheel And Ski in Newport Maine. ANd although they have been friendly and very willing to fix it every time i bring it in. They can't seem to get it right. SOmething is draining that battery, why didn't they think to check that the last TWO times i've had it there?!?!?!?!?!?!? Just assumed is was the ECM module even though that tested fine the first time i brought it. And yes that did need to be replaced the SECOND time i brought in it, but i asked them to throughly go over that battery cause i had a funny feeling it was more. So now I need my wheeler this morning to plow and can't won't start won't take a charge? !??!? what do i do? Can get my car out of the driveway to much snow, had to call into work, i was opening the builiding this morning so everyone is losing time because of the damn atv and my boss totally ripped me a new one. BUT hey coveside said they would plow for someone to plow my driveway.......!!! Considering it's xmas eve, and most people are with therefamily today good luck with that!!!!

ANy ideas let me know, i've already asked them to replaced the atv or buy it back and they declined on that! I will be contacting some higher authority on this, this was the final straw with me on the atv.

 

Junk Battery!

 

If this is exactly the truth, then handycap is right on the money. If a battery won't take a charge then you need a new battery. Put a new battery in and your on your way.
It's easy to check if there is a draw. Just put a multi meter on it and see if there is any out-going juice. If there is juice being drained off then it might be difficult for the tech to find the short.

 

sounds rite, put a new batt in and disconnect the pos. terminal and bridge the term. and cable with a test light. With everything turned off there should be no light, if you have a light then start unpluging switches, a winch or what ever you can find. when the light goes out your problem is in that area. That will help you narrow it down, good luck.

 

sounds like you either have a dead short some where or the rectifier is junk. this will kill the battery as well over time. how old is the battery in the 700? if the rectifier is junk it also might let too much voltage thru and fry the emc, maybe. have heard of it though. if you boost it off a shut off car will it start right up and stay running?

 

You can either be a thorn in thier side till they get it right(at no cost to you) or fix it yourself.
Start with a new battery. Check the charging system. Check for an amperage draw with the key off.
Did they tell you they tested the ECM??? The only way to "test" it is to put it on another 4 wheeler(same model as yours of coarse) and see if it works. The only reason to even look at the ECM is if it wasn't getting spark.
From what you described it sounds as though it's the battery, maybe the charging system.
Are you having the same issue that led you to take it to the shop the first time???

 

About three weeks ago, had the ECM replaced and the battery replaced. That battery is only three weeks old now. Finally did get it started, charged the battery then jump it with my car. After about 10mins of plowing the damn thing stalled andwouldn't start again. had to jumpstart it again!!!!!!! Something is draining that battery, i nor the place where i bought it can seem to figure it out!!!!

anyone wanta buy a 05 sportsman 700????? doesn't stay started but it's fun to look at!

 

Either something is draining the battery, OR your charging system isn't working.
