Quad speed vs MotoX speed
#1
Hi
Why is it that with equivalent sized engines a motoX bike seems much faster, ie an LT80 will do approx 30mph no matter what size of rider, a road bike of 80cc would do at least double this ? any ideas

Of course a two wheeler is going to be faster than a quad. A quad has a much bigger size
and requires more power to turn the axle with 2 tires on it.
You also need to keep in mind motorcycles are not regulated like ATV's.
All of the kids atv's have regulations for speed out of the crate.
50's are only supposed to do 10mph out of the crate
90's are only supposed to go 15mph out of the crate

Whats the score with the regulation on quads and not bikes ? i would have thought that a quad was the safer to ride ? i have removed the restrictors on my LT80 from the slide and exhaust, is there anything else i should do? i don't see driving 2 wheels instead of one has this kind of differance.

Well that is a history lesson is all. The motos dont have any age restrictions either.
ATV's have a bad rap from lots of accidents. Of course its a matter of opinion as to the cause
of the accidents.

The quads come from the factory for your child to putt around the yard.
The bikes come ready to race.
It's a matter of motors/pipes/clutching.

So i guess the engine is in a much milder state of tune than either a road or off road bike, does this mean that a tuned engine will not be as peaky and unreliable as i remember tuned 2 strokes from the past ? and will the children still be able to potter around on a tuned one.
Thanks
Thanks

The more modded, the more peaky. This is why they invented the power valve cylinders. Low and top.
The LT80 motor in modded form is equally enjoyable in the back yard as the track. ALTHO a young/inexpierienced rider may not have as much fun as a natuarally agressive rider.

Badvox,
Where did you get your info on 50cc atv's only doing 10mph and 90cc doing 15mph. I have never heard of that anywhere and is pretty impossable considering any atv other than powerwheels will easily do more than 10mph out of the crate without ANY adjustments and all major atv's brands have a max speed advertised so if it regulated they would not be able to advertise those speeds. A powerwheels will do 5mph. Even the electric atv's from ebay or pepboys will do 20mph. I would really like to know where you got your info.

All 3 have been in the biz for a long long time. Go look at the Yamaha 50 and 80 they are dogs out of the crate
too. Of course Ii am talking about legit manufactuers here too. No matter how they are limited
they are supposed to be the same out of the crate.
