Raptor smoking

SO my raptor had begun to smoke at start up when it is cold. Why do you think thios is. It does not pour out just a little. Is this normal?
If my piston rings had gone then it would smoke all the time right?
Well hope some one can help me out.
Also does hot cams stage 1 cam make you lose top end or does it broden the the whole power range?
I have looked at the seach for that but found no defiate answer.

Smoke at startup is usually an indication that the rings are getting old, smoking while it runs means the rings are getting ready to be replaced. Smoke coming out of the bike when warming up in cold weather doesnt mean anything is wrong with the bike, necessarily.
A stage 1 hotcam doesnt make you lose top end power, but it makes the low and midrange so much stronger that it may feel like it.
Do a compression test on your bike to see if the rings are holding. Stock is 182psi, I think 170 is the low end of the "ok" range.

Smoke at start-up can also mean worn valve guides/seals. After the machine is run and then shut down, the oil seeps past the worn seals and into the combustion chamber where it is burned on next start-up. My girlfriend's 04 Bruin has this same problem. It will smoke on start-up but stop after the engine warms.
If it smokes on acceleration after it warms up....most likely worn rings.

yeah it uses a little bit of oil not sure how much i have only had it for 1 month or so now and its a 2001. and only done one oil change.
Also this may be a stupid ? but you don't have to take the engine out to rplace the piston nad ringd right. Same with the cam??

You have to pull the head and cylinder, but you don't have to take the engine out.
I wouldn't worry about it until it starts killing mosquitoes or fouling plugs. If it runs OK, leave it alone.

yeah i know what you mean once yo u start to screw with things more things go wrong.
or at leat with me i get frustarted and end up breaking a tinny paty that cost 50 bucks lol
if it does start to get bad is the 11.1 wisco piston a good option to gor for and maby a stage 1 hotcams?
or should i upgarde my header pipe before that

I had a 102 mm Wiseco 11:1 and a stage 1. It ran good, but it threw the rod after about 9 months. $$$$$$$$
If you mod a Raptor other than pipe and jetting, you better do it right or you will end up with an expensive boat anchor.
