Help, no spark Kazuma 50cc
#1
My son's Kazuma 50 has been pretty good to him but the other day after he washed it, it ran for an hour or 2 and after he shut it off it would not restart. I checked all the connectors all looked ok. I did find the kill switch on the handlebar was slightly burnt at the contacts inside. I disabled all 3 killswitches, still no spark. Checked for power to the dpi box no power and not getting pulsed. I heard from a couple people that the pickup on the stator was a common cause of loss of spark, replaced the stator and still no spark. Did the short in the kill switch fry the dpi also? Any suggestions are very much appreciated, Thanks.

The only fuse I could find was an inline fuse at the battery. It was ok. Was the fuse on your 110 easily accessible, on top of the battery or did you have to open the harness to find it? I don't know if the dpi is supposed to have power to it or not. There is no power at all to the dpi box and I am starting to wonder if the ignition switch could be the problem.

Boy do I feel your pain. I've stripped my 50's cowling off and torn into the wiring harness twice now looking for shorts. The first time the problem was in the block connector just in front of the steering wheel that connndects the starter switch. We happened to find it (after we had torn into the harness) by trying the switch while I accidently jiggled the block connector. If you look real close you can see the individual connectors in the block are very flimsy(my biggest complaint about the chinese stuff is everything seems flimsy((connectors, rubber materials etc)) and so the connector's female end wasn't making good connection inside the block with the female. I cut the wire out of the block and put on better spade connectors. The second time which is now I'm still stumped. If you would like we could talk about the circuitry so email me if you want to.

Thanks Billy I may just do that. I am going to go back and check the individual terminals as you suggested. When I was trying to start it I was tapping on the mag cover and then I tapped the dpi box on the case and it started to fire once or twice. This makes me think it may be the dpi or like you said, a loose terminal. I would also like to contact the guys at Raceway, they really seem like a good group to deal with. I'll let you know if I find anything out, who knows we may have the same problem. Thanks Jeff

I have now went through every electrical connection on this little bike. I've replaced the mag and pickup and the cdi box. I talked to a guy that works on these alot and he said that the resistance through the pickup 120 ohms was fine and that he had never had to put a coil on one of these and it was most likely the cdi box. Now I wonder if I shouldn't replace the coil next. I see alot of companies offering ignition switches, are they losing spark because of no power from the switch? Just grasping at straws at this point. Thanks, Jeff

Does this atv have any added safety features, i.e pull strap or an alarm? You may have to check these connections or totally bypass them. Also, since you washed it, you may want to check the engine start run switch. I would bypass all of these and use just the ket switch..

Jeff,
Help me out. I'm sorry I have to ask basic questions but here goes. On my kazuma 50 the key switch takes power to the secondary circuit for the relay. The push button/momentary switch completes the ground leg of the secondary circuit of the relay thus acctuatiing the primary circuit and thus takes power to the coil? Am I understanding this correctly. My problem now is intermittent starting. Sometimes it will cranck fine other times its "dead" that is no response at all when I try to crank it. Though my first suspicion is the elcheapo bullet connectors with their weak metal but now I'm beginning to wonder if I have an intermittent short in my cdi or relay or coil. Any thoughts? Also saw this interesting site when I searched for coils: http://webpages.marshall.edu/~baksh2/convert.html that describes how to convert to cheaply available ford ignitions on an atv.
