Water in hillard??!!!
#1
I've got a dumb question.... I can't seem to keep water out of my hillard!!!! I do drive thru puddles but I don't just sit in them... Anyways my hillard is shot not a good piece in it, even case is gone... My dealer is fixing it for 850, kinda sucks considering I should of done it myself but wasn't sure where to start. From what I was told the parts should be over 1200 and they are cutting me a nice break...
Back to my question... Is it normal for water to get in there or is it possible that I had a bigger problem if water was always in there????
Any replies would be great... I quess since I'm fixing it I need to know what to avoid (other than water) and what to look for????

If you are talking about the hillard in the front gearcase, your best bet is just by a whole new gearcase. 4 Bolts, pull the shafts and hook up the wiring and you are done.
Watch those dealers. I had a buddy that they just kept replacing everything piece by peice on the front end of his 700. Finally they just shelled it out and replaced the front gearcase. Good thing it was under warranty or easily would have paid what they are quoting you.

A new hilliard cage costs about 199.99 from Polaris. Takes about 3 hours to replace,if you have a basic understanding of mechanics. No special tools are needed,. ( I have replaced mine twice).A new front case with the guts is about 1400 $ i replaced one of them too! Polaris actually picked up the bill on that one. Is your breater tube attached to the front case? Or do you have a bad outer seal at the axle output ? or seal at driveshaft input. good luck

Itstillruns,
Yes the breather tube was attached and yes I think the seal at the axle was bad, it did move around alot. I seen the the case apart. It was full of rust and all of the bearings are trashed, even the case was marked.
I have a strong mechanic knowledge but being the first time I didn't want to tackle it myself but next time I will for sure...
My dealer is installing a brand new case assembly for 850 otd, so I feel I'm getting a good deal considering
