Questions before first service ?
#1
I am new to ATV's and have a 2005 Polaris 700 Sportsman Hunter Edition that I will be bringing in for its first 10 hour service, I have some questions and would like to know if some of these conditions are normal as the dealer would probably tell me everything is fine anyway's.
1. ATV does not work as 4 wheel drive in reverse (rear tires spin and front does not engage)
2. ATV sputters when driving in reverse
3. Gears sometimes grind if shift is not pushed firmly forward into Hi, after grinding sound if you push the shifter forward everything goes into gear fine.
4. After going through a medium size puddle belt starting slipping shortly after when trying to get over a log it slipped more actually causing a bit of smoke, does this mean the belt is damagfed or should it be fine. seem to be working fine but just wondering if it is worth mentioning to the dealer
5. Left heated handgrip does not get anywhere as hot as right side
6. Fuel gauge was not working but just starting working today
Some of these things have been going on since day one but I figured I would take care of them if they are problems at the first service. Any help is appreciated and if theres anything else I should know please let me know.
Thank you

1 and 2 are because your not pushing the overide button (yellow button on left handle bar) as far the belt slipping it really shouldnt be w/ only 10 hrs or a little mud puddle. maybe someone has already burnt the belt on you. you could try using low range going slow or pull your clutch cover off and inspect the belt. grinding is usalkly because your idled to high or not letting the enginerev down b-4 shifting. i was always shift 1 fast smooth motion. maybe the relay or resitor is going bad in the handle warmers, broken wire could be either. good luck

sounds like you are not familiar with the Polaris machines, perhaps this is your first, in which case your dealer should have gone over some things before you left the shop. I recommend you go over the owner's manual, Polaris machines are simple to operate but if you are not accustomed to them it can be frustrating. gotta eat, be back later to finish...

Hey gunman457 since there are so many people with problems with their Kawasakis you might want to go to that forum. They may need your help more than us. Just look up to the right, it says Navigation and click on the down arrow, then click on the Kawasaki, it will take you to the proper site. Thanks for your help, bye...

so gdc 23, the yellow button on the left handle bar not only changes the functions of the speedo but it also is the reverse override to allow both full throttle and AWD engagement when in reverse. machine must come to a COMPLETE stop and be at IDLE in order to change gears and the motion should be firm and quick, this is something you will get used to. the belt should not be getting wet so easily, but if it does then there is a procedure in the manual to quickly dry it on the trail. it says to put machine in N and rev engine for a certain amount of time. may be necessary to pull the drain plug also. don't know about the grips. fuel gauge is more of a selling point as opposed to an accurate means of measuring fuel, when it flashes to say it's near empty FILL UP QUICK!
in any sort of low speed, (under 10 mph), technical terrain you should use low range to ensure full belt engagement, otherwise it will cause too much friction and burn belt if left in high range. just the nature of the beast. smoking it a few times shouldn't do any harm.
good luck

Look, I'm not trying to start a fight, I just think that if you had a problem with your quad, you would like to get some input on how to fix it. Not: "Sounds like you got a good one. just keep your fingers crossed when you go for a ride that you make it back."

And as for Kawasaki forum, they don't have much going on expect for mod's on other quads. There's not enough action on the Kawasaki forum like there is on the Polaris forum. What can I tell you. It's not my fault that Kawasaki doesn't have a lot of problem's.
