Default Sprokets.. Top Speed..

Well im in the market for a set of sprokets that would help me have a little higher top end.. I thought i read somewhere that a stock raptor comes with a 13 tooth front sproket and a 43 Rear. Id think that going higher like 15front and 50 rear would gain more top end? Am i way off? and does anyone know of a website that sells sprokets with chains? Thanks

When selecting sprockets other than stock: for more LOW END, go larger on the rear, or lower on the front. For more TOP END, go lower on the rear, or larger on the front.

Try goin to www.rockymountainatv.com or www.moto-man.com or www.albaaction.com they sohuld all have some pretty good sprocket deals .

Would a 15tooh front and a 40tooh rear be to drastic?(sp) I still want to have the get up and go power that the quad puts out just want to cruise a little faster without reving the crap out of it.. and it would be nice to hang with a banshee in 6th and would i need a new chain? id think so because of the new hardware but just asking. im also planning on buying a +2 rear swingarm.

It depends on how much faster you want to go, u would be going around 85 w/ that gearing, and unless you have quite a few mods, your probablly gonna lose your low end grunt. If you are bone stock, the most I would change would be one tooth up on the front. If your piped and jetted, that gearing may even be a little too wide. You may need a new chain, depends on how tight yours is right now. I can almost guarantee your gonna need a new chain if you extend your swingarm.

id just want to cruise at around 50-60mph.. Just trying to gain top end Speed and not be able to do a wheelie into 4th anymore. Its fun to do sometimes but pretty scary weaving trees.. I am in the process of buying a wider front end +2 i think it is and a +2 rear swing arm and want to use it to its fullest potential. Top speed is a must though. I dont want to lose ALL bottom end but lose a little would be nice for more Top End.

Ok if he has a 15 tooth on the front and a 40 tooth on the rear. How would that make hime go 85mph? I have a 16 tooth on the front and a 44 tooth on the rear and i dont do anything near 85mph. Am i understanding all this right?

You do know that your 16/44 is slightly lower geared than his 15/40, right? I agree. 85 is not likely but to know that you need to know the gear ratio of your top gear........ assuming you have the power to pull top gear. Was this a Warrior we are talking about? The only way I can think of to make a Warrior go 85 would be in the back of your truck.

Oh, its a Banshee. That makes more sense.

No i have a warrior. o and i have 21x12x9 rear tires and 21x8x10 in the front. so if i was to keep the 16 in front and put the 40 back on the rear would that give be more top end? What is a good top end gear ratio for a warrior?

That is exactly right. When you want higher gears you either increase the number of teeth on the countersprocket or you decrease the number of teeth on the rear sprocket. Think of the counter sprocket as coarse adjustment and the rear sprocket as fine adjustment. 1 tooth on the front is about equivilant to 3 teeth in the back.

As far as optimal gears for a Warrior........... I don't really know anything about Warriors. No one could ever tell me why they liked their gear setup when I was trying to dial mine in. Even worse, there were 100 different opinions out there. I found someone to race against that was consistent and I bought a few sprockets and some extra chain and a couple of masterlinks and started experimenting. When I was running the fastest on the race hill, I left those sprockets on and installed a new chain with only one master link in it and forgot about it.
