New sprockets/chain for AC 90 2005
#1
I am thinking about regearing my sons AC 90. It is a 2005 4-stroke and i have removed the clutch limiter and opened up the exhaust but it needs some more top end. I believe it has the 50 tooth rear sprocket and i have read about going to a 35 tooth. Would the 35 gear it up too much or is there a happy medium? Also should I get a complete set with a new chain with a different pitch or am I OK with the current chain? Also Sprocket Specialists does not have the AC listed in its manufacureres list, what should I use? I have tried to e-mail them but no response. Thanks!

I think I PMd you this last week check your PMs. You can get the Bombardier DS90 sprocket, or DRR it has the 4 bolt pattern like your cat unless they changed the sprocket hub in 05. Or you can find a 3 bolt sprocket hub from another bike like an extreme machine, polaris pred 90, sportsman 90 and it should fit your splines on your axle. You can stay with the 428 chain and if you get a smaller back sprocket you can cut the chain down to fit, or if you need a new chain get a new one. The 520 chain like on some etons etc. creates quite of rolling resistance. If the bike has good power off the line then a 35 would be good and increase top speed quite a bit. Billy at WRH racing or Rich at Hetrick racing have the sprockets and hubs too. Hope this answers your question.

No PM but the reply is appreciated. It does have the four bolt hub so i will look into the DS90 like you suggested. It has plenty of bottom end but pooters out pretty quick so i think I will try a 35 like mentioned then if it dogs it too much I can always find a happy medium. Thanks!

Let us know how the 35 tooth sprocket works on the 4 stroke.I (my daughter) has an 04 4stroke and this is one of the mods that I am geting ready to do, except I was thinking more like 40 or 45 teeth.I just don't want to lose the bottom end and not be able to climb any hills without a big run at them.
Fastdad, I had a long talk with my local Arctic Cat dealer and Mechanic the other day.I ended up bring the quad in and they pulled the brass ring out for me.It sure has helped out .I may hold off on the new front variator for now.I think money is better spent on new front shocks ( I can barely get them to bottom out (using my 180lb rear end)by sitting on the front guard.Thats just a little stiff.
