New to the forum like alot. Question my sportsman with itp wheels and 589 tires will not pull ahead of my buddy yamaha 660 has same tire package. Are they geared diffrent or they just have more power midrange. can pull him off the line about 2 bikes I also have the dg pure polaris muffler are they good. sounds a bit louder i like . that muffler is tuneable should i take disks out or leave it alone. thanks for the help andy

Some things to think about here. (1) When you put on the pipe, did you re-jet the carbs? If you didn't your engine may be running lean and even though it "sounds" more powerful because it is louder it is very possible that it is producing less power than it did stock due to the lean condition caused by the less restrictive exhaust. (2)Also check the weight differences between the two machines. I almost bet that that the Sportsman outweighs the Grizzly a good bit. Not sure but I don't think the displacement between engine sizes is very much either. If this is the case, try to get the weights more even between the two and see what happens.(3) You didn't state whether you ran against him in High or Low range. Any one or all of these things could make a huge difference in the outcome of your race. Hope this helps. Let us know how it goes.

THANKS for the help. it was on level ground in hi. Also the muffler that i got was made by dg for polaris and it states that you need no jetting requried. designed for stock 700 with stock air box and stock jets. Have you guys heard of this muffler. Bresse lawn in garden was selling them on ebay brand new for 175.00. Has a polaris emblem on it. There are disks on the back and the center is closed up you can pull the disks out. What will this do for me. thanks

Looks like the faster quad won. The Polaris is about 165lbs heavier than the Grizz and you only have about 23cc more engine displacement.Your top speed should be close, but lighter quads will always acclerate better than a heavier machine given that the traction and horsepower are about equal. It's just physics, sorry.

Thanks for those numbers Curls. So many people compare "apples to oranges" without taking as you put it so well"the laws of physics" into consideration. We could all safely say that if he stuck maybe a 150 extra lbs. on the Grizzly(allowing a little off the total weight difference for the difference in cc's)we would have a closer race. We don't know the distance or top speed they attained, but I know the Polaris would have accelerated quicker in low range than high but would not reach as high a top speed. Sounds like they have several variables they can try. Hope they will and report back to us.

You sure its a DG silencer. I have never heard of a DG silencer made for Polaris. I know white brothers made one. If you want to take him change the primary spring to an EPI maroon or red. My brother inlaws sp600 will stay right with a stock carb 700 but prior to the spring the 700 pulled away the whole time. The more disks you have in the more hp it will have. The less disks the more torque. You can add a K&N filter and take 2-3 disks out, change the spring and I will bet money you can take the grizz.

It's not a DG silencer.it is made by white brothers I have one on mine, Did you put the 800 pipe on it? I think that helps a bunch, My 03 will smoke grizzley's, I have a K@N air filter, put the 800 snorkel on and moved the needle in the carb up one notch to give it more gas, also have 26' mud lite XT"s on it. If you add disks to the muffler it adds top end, if you remove them it adds low end.

I have an 05 700EFI and a freind has an 05 660 Grizzly. From a dead stop he will get a jump on me (my ATV heavier and I am heavier too) but once we get going the Polaris will walk past him no problem in top end.

the grizzly is quick oui of the hole..... just pin yours and when you get to 55 -60 mile an hour you'l have to look behind to find him. you're bike is a lot faster on the top end!!!!!!!!!
