Silent chain on 97 Sport 400
#1
Can someone give me a quick run down on replaceing the chain?
Im sure if i mess around enough ill figure it out but it would be easier if i had a couple tips.
I have the tranny out and split open ready to go.
I really dont want to buy the manual for this one job.(no im not cheap, just could use the money elsewhere)
All i need is a couple do's and a couple dont's.
Thanks

Sounds like to me if you got it out and apart, you've dam near got it licked.
Sometimes when they go back together, the bearings want to bind up, where they slide into the housing. Just lube em up real good and ya should be fine.
Good luck

What i need to know is , are you supposed to pull all the gears and everything out? Does the chain come apart (master link)? How do you get the shifter fork out?
Any advise would be helpful.

There is no master link in the chain. therefore you have to remove the sprokets to get it on rite. If I remember corectly the shift fork mechanism just slides out. But its been a while since I was in one.

Thanks Whitedog. Nobody had replied so i just pulled everything out of it. Youre right about the shift fork. I was'nt sure if the gears were going to fall apart or not.I found out they dont. Thanks again

Not really. It is just that any good name brand synthetic motor oil is much better for your trans than the crap Polaris wants you to buy.
I just like the Castrol.

Yeah, I'm sure they just put some cheap fluid in that won't protect your gearbox so you can replace it all the time. What a joke.
