anyone know of any links on how to adjust the vavles for the trx thanks

 

The valves are adjusted useing shims,You need to pull the valve cover take your feeler guage readings and either increase or decrease your shim thickness to meet specs

specs are

Exhaust: .28 mm +/- .03 mm
Intake: .16 mm +/- .03 mm

clearance on the decompressor arm is

Decompressor: a* + .25 mm +/- .02 mm.

a* = adjusted exhaust valve clearance.

Basically take the exhaust valve clearance you have and add .25mm +/- .02mm to get the clearance for the decompressor.

 

How hard is this to do. Is it something easily done or let the dealer do it. And what does it cost to do it at the dealer.

 

To adjust the valves you need to remove the fuel tank, plastic cover between engine and tank, and the valve cover. You then need to turn the motor to the correct position and use feeler gauges to check the clearances. If the valves are out of adjustment, you need to remove the cam, which requires loosing the cam chain tensioner and removing the cam sprocket. Using the measurements you got from before, you need to determine the correct shim size to install and then put everything back together correctly, torquing the cam holder and making sure cam timing is correct or you will bend the valves.

A dealer will charge you 1 - 1.5 hours labor to adjust the valves.

 

its a good learning experinece if you are mechanically inclined, but if you are not comfortable with it, pay the dealer the $45/hr to do it. its worth it. they do it everyday, prob more efficient and if something screws up, they are liable, not you.

 

Is $45/hr the labor rate for Honda dealers in Louisiana? In southern Wisconsin, most dealers are between $70 - $80/hour. When I started wrenching 10 years ago, I remember them being in the lower $50/hr, which is still more than their charging today down south.

 

last time i was at the dealer that's the sign i saw. thats what they quoted my on putting the HRC kit in...unless they went up or something or dont recall them correctly...not really worth it to argue over, though...

if it is $70-80, id still reccomend paying it to get it done fast(er) and right.
