Califorina is one of, if not, the biggest market in the us for atv's. and california has resently band the sale of new two stroke atv's in there state, due to the air polution. so the sale of the two stroke's was not bringing in enough money to keep the prodution of them going.

 

Because they can now make high RPM's with 4 strokes.

This is not true. Califorina is not going to ban 2 stroke engines.
All engines must meet certain emission requirements in order to be sold in California. It does not matter if its a 2 stroke or a 4 stroke.
Their is new 2 stroke technology being developed that will replace most of todays 2 stokes.
A good examlpe is the new Evinrude E-tec 2 stroke outboard marine engine. These new 2 stroke outboards are being sold in California and the emission levels for these new engines are lower than a similar model 4-stroke. Better fuel efficiency as well.
The Honda EXP-2 motorcycle is another example of a clean burning 2 stroke, that you will be seeing in California.

 

Lack of interest in two strokes is one major reason. 4-strokes are the latest fad, and that is what is selling, so Yamaha does not want to invest the resources in changes needed to make its two strokes emission compliant.

Bombardier makes a two stroke 1000cc twin cylinder snomobile that is emission legal because of EFI. The fuel is injected directly into the transfer ports after the piston is above the exhaust ports, which decreases emissions to levels equal to four strokes. wow, that snowmobile must be insane. My cousin has a Yamaha Vmax 600 and it's 2stroke and that thing speeds up insane, imagine a 1000 2stroke!

 

I thought the two strokes demise was due to the self destructive nature of a two stroke engine. I know the Banshee is the ONLY Yamaha product to have only a 3 month warrenty and no available YES. Thats what i thought anyway... reliability issues.

 

Go to Yamaha's web site and look up the warranty on the YZ250F and YZ450F then.

 

With their new 4-stoke line up, the Banshee has really lost its popularity, as far as the blaster, no clue why, it seems to still be a strong seller.
