04 Rincon questions?
#1
I am looking to buy a Rincon and want to know the good, bad, weak points, strong points, and all the above. How is power, top speed, what will they beat, are they good in mud, fuel mileage reliability and just about anything you can think about them. I am from the Polaris forum so please honest opinions and no bashing.

I work at a Honda and BRP dealer and have some experience w/ the Rincon, and will try to give an unbiased opinion. I used one for a full weekend of riding and I loved it. Awesome handling and suspension. Could use more power for a 650 class machine but had plenty to keep up w/ the sport quads. Compared to other 4x4s in its class, the Rincon has the least amount of power but has one of the best, if not the best handling. It weighs 600 pounds which is the same as Yamaha and Kawasaki and about 150 pounds less than a Polaris.
The goods (2006 model, 680cc): handling, suspension, weight, no belts, IRS, auto or ESP, 2wd/4wd, EFI, disc brakes,
The bad: power(compared to other big bore 4x4s), no low range, have to warm it up for several minutes in colder weather (oil too thick to feed torque converter),
Dad is picking his new 680 tomorrow. I can't wait to put some seat time on it. I loved the 650 and the 680 is even better. I mainly trail ride and don't need a low range, feel the power is acceptable and can wait for it to warm up. I have ridden the Brute Force and Grizzly. Both have more power but don't even come close to the handling of the Honda. Haven't ridden the Suzuki or Polaris. The Bomb 800 is scary fast and handles better than Kawi and Yamaha.
I'm sure theres other things to add to the good/bad list but i'm drawing a blank right now. There are a lot of happy Rincon owners out there, I don't think you'll be disappointed unless all you want is top speed.

I have a 2004 Rincon that I ride several days a week. It meets my needs very well: [1] work vehicle on my property for hauling brush, etc. [2] ride Sand Mountain, Nevada with friend that uses a sandrail [3] poach the railroad tracks with my son on his Kawa 700 V-Force [4] ride the trails in Utah (Paiute trails & in those in Moab) with my 4 friends on their DRZ 400 dual-sport bikes [5] navigate parts of the Rubicon Jeep trail with my relatives [6] explore the 5,000 acres of Carnegie Park, CA while watching the motorcycle hillclimb championships. With my wife on the back, we have been over mountain passes in Nevada, Utah, and Colorado exceeding 14,000 feet.
Pros: The shifting, handling, comfort, & the ability to blast through many different types of terrain.
Cons: I would prefer more power, especially above 4,000 ft in elevation. Also a little better engine braking would be nice.
The 2006 Rincon would probably make up for most of the “Cons.” [e.g. 680cc eng., fuel injection, etc.]
