A friend found a 00 400 scrambler 4x4. How much is it worth on the average. I believe it has a broken fender plastic. half worn tires. This would be 2 stroke, right? the guy wants $1800

Priced about right and its a 2-stroke.
You can have my 2003 400 2- stroke 2x4 Trailblazer with all the extras for $3380.00
new tires, 2 sets, chrome HPD pipe, Aaen silencer, HPD clutch kit, V-force reeds, 44 mm flatside carb. K&N air filter, no broken or cracked plastic, Badland tires, + knobbies and extra wheels, stock exhaust too.
But the 2000 will be just fine, ride it and have someone that knows Polaris look at it too.
good luck...................handycap

2x4s go from $2000-2500 and the 4x4 $2500-3000 depending on condition.
When i got my 2x4 400 a few years ago the asking price was $2500 and i got it for $2000 from a motivated seller.

I think that price sounds right in line for the condition of the machine! I got my 97 scrambler for $1050 but it was in pieces and needed reassembly. After adding all the mods, I probably have about 1800 in it. Assuming that machine in good shape would sell for about 2500, replacing the tires, plastic, and probably a top end would put that $1800 machine right at $2500.

here's some things to check, pull up on the handlebars to see if the lower steering stem bushing is shot. pullback and forth on the handlebars to see if the upper steering post bushing is shot. without moving the tires turn the handlebars side to side to check for slop in the outer tie rod ends. then grab the tie rod and hold it still while you move the handlebars side to side to check for slop in the inner tie rod ends. grab the back bumper and pull it from side to side to check for slop in the swing arm bushings. bring a floor jack and lift the back end up and wiggle the back tires side to side to check for slop in the axle bearings and or housing. lift the front end up and lift up and down on the a-arms to check for slop in the a-arm bushings. pull the top of the airbox off and look at the air cleaner to see if it's filthy to get an idea of what kind of maintenance they did to the bike. wiggle the prop shaft and the front cv shafts to check for slop. if you take the seat off and pull of the rubber snorkel from the airbox look down in between the motor and the tranny and you will see a cap with a slot in the head of it. take a long flat tip screw driver with you so you can unscrew and pull that cap with the slot in it out. there's a dipstick on the end of it for the counter balance oil level. make sure it's not dry. put it in 4x4 and ride it to make sure it doesn't pull to one side or the other becuase of problems with the 4x4 hubs. try to hit a rut or curb while your riding it to see if the front struts bottom out. there's probablt an easier way to check that . maybe somebody while chime in on that and any thing i forgot. all yeah check the chain and sprockets too.
