Howdy all! long time no post on here but I still lurk from time to time.

Well as some of you know I have a Banshee project i have been working on for a while. Everything is about ready to go to the painter now. BUT!!

I found another quad that sounds super fun. It is a Polaris Scrambler 4x4 that has had the 400 taken out and now had a Ski-doo Summit 670 Rotary valve motor in it. For those not familiar with that motor, it puts out 125-130hp STOCK! This one has been de-tuned some to 85HP or so ( not sure how, I need to get the info on that). It has a +4 swingerarm on it and the 4x4 is still fully functional. The guy that built the quad has ridden for 2 and half years with zero problems exept a belt has blown a few times. He is willing to trade me streight across for my banshee. The reason is they are worth about the same we figure and he has a buyer for the Banshee but not the Scrambler.

He says with it being trail ridden for a few years it isnt all shiney pretty but he is going to take a bunch of pics of it for me. I think it could be a really fun project.

Dude!! From a DS to a banshee to an army tank with big *****!!
Well I'm not much into the scramblers, yes I've ridden them and had buddies that owned them, and regardless of motor I don't dig them that much, but I do like DS's and Banshees both very well so my opinion is a bit one sided.
But the choice is yours and I wouldn't dare fault you for any decision you make, as long as you have fun with it that's all that matters!

The rotory valve is the secret and the trick. With the right stack of valves you can tune that beast to do pretty much anything you need to. You can also tune the exhaust ports. We used to grind alot of our own valves, being that they are pretty much just round sheet metal with a couple, ummmmm curved notches in them. You can modify the duration any way you like or need. I think that motor being in that chassis is a waste, but toss it inna rail, or DS frame and you can really pump that sucker back to original. It will give pretty much anything a run for the money including the busa. My 617 rotax would run 105 in 500' on NOS which doesn't seem like much but it also was a 659lb sled. We got 168 hp in our 800 open mod and it would run 4.4 @ 136mph in the 1/8 but the frame was only 217lbs. The biggest problem with putting a sled motor inna quad are getting the right exhaust's, but as life has proven again and again, everything is possable. They are in my pics if you want to see them. =]

Man Todd, you would be the 670 king. One for the winter and one for the summer. I bet we could get that to haul some butt. Not sure about the scrambler chassie though.

Well I just got back from jackson for the weekend.

I see I missed a soap opera on here the past few weeks. Oh well probably not important anyways.

As far as the Scrambler chassis goes, I am not too worried about it. My brother had three of them and I actually really liked riding it. I think I will need better shock/struts and stuff. I will really sit down and look at it and see what can be added, taken out, ect. when I strip the machine or paint work.

It does seam the weak link is the tranny. Not the clutch system, the tranny for reverse, forward and 4wd. 85hp seams to be fine but when you get close to 100hp I have heard of failures. I will look into this and see what needs to be done. I also will need to look into some stator work on the motor as it doesnt have headlights right now as the guy said the elec fans on the twin radiators take all the juice it has.

I think this will be a wicked fun quad to ride. just hit the gas and hold on. No gears to mess with just concentrate on the trip up the hill and hopefuly beating a Rappy hear and there.

So what do you think I should call the new PooDoo??

I posted in the Poo forum and Whitedog replied this, so it sounds promising:

The 2wd tranny has chain driven foward gear, whereas the 4x4 trans has a "gear to gear" foward gear. So, it stands to reason that the 4x4 tranny should take more power. If it were me, Id have to give it a try.
Worst it can do is break! LOL

I know a few have pushed these to 100hp so I think there is room here. Maybe take the tranny, cryo the gears, maybe do a tranny cooler w/pump or something?

Jed,

I have your windshield ready for ya. After this weekend, WE HAVE to plan a trip next year to Togotee(sp?) pass. 118" of snow on the ground. 300+ total fall so far. It looked like a sled mecka man!! I was cussing not having the 670 with us!! I didnt know rather to get excited to see a new area or go into a depression for not riding it.

BTW It is CaptJackSparrow on Snowest that has the quad. The hardest part of the trade is the Canada border. As of right now the trade isnt doen but unless something just really looks bad in the pics he is supposed to send me, I will go for it.
