Lectron too close to pipe?
#1
I have a 48 Lectron and a big gun full exhaust. The thing bothering me is that the lectrons plastic bowl is a little over an inch away from the pipe on my ds. Should I do something about this or what? I was thinking about putting heat tape on it.

I don't think you need to worry when you are riding. The air will be constantly moving so even though the pipe is hot it won't be able to radiate to the float bowl. It is when you are sitting still idling or just shut her down that the float bowl will get the warmest.
Sit and idle for awhile then shut it down and immediately check the temperature of the float bowl. You will know if it is too hot and requires attention.

Thats odd. I don't remember my 46hv being any where near my CT exhaust. I assume you are talking about a single 48hv not dual carbs?
Either way, if you feel it is too close for comfort you can get some that fiber glass wrap (the wrap they use on hot rod headers) and use it around the header/mid pipe.

Thanks Sandaholic, that's a good suggestion for the singe or dual Lectrons if you have to bend the pipe like BigBaja.
Safety First. I never had noticed how close it was to my stock dual Mikuni bst-33's. Sachs must have had a good reason though - ???.
I saw some disadvantage about the exhaust wrap tape before to lower heat, but don't remember what it was.
Don't matter though compared to safety with plastic carb bowls, lol.
I have heard of rotax carb fires catching between riders legs from backfires and oil covered foam filters not in a box. Sounds funnier than it really is though

Check this heat tape out. Probably expensive, but in colors to match my Midnight Blue Beamer.
I'll probably go with the red tape.
The manufacturer says increased hp by cooling exhaust flow, but it will probably mean my pipe will always have tape on it.
Oh well, at least its color coded. Troopers may eye-ball it for a second look though. Then again, I may go with silver tape, lol.

Am I missing something here?.........Not that anybody cares, I just thought that was a silly thing for the manufacturer to say but........I might just be making an azz out of myself over nothing!
lol.

That sounds familiar. Read the link. I know that's what I need irreguardless. But yes, turbo insulators are to keep heat in so my wording was wrong. I just got excited when I saw the cool colors, if I'm not afraid of attracting troopers attention.
