700r upgraded now my headers glow bright red

I have a 06 raptor and have gytr headers, exaust, and air filter. Yamaha dealer told me I don't have to make any mods. It does seem to run great except I can let mine Idle for 5 mins and the headers will glow super bright red, i've heard this is normal, but it don't look like its something that's suppose to happen. My wife has the same quad with no mods and hers just get a little faint red. I'm afraid of messing up my engine. any help would be appreciated. thanks.

Join the club. I have Trinity headers on mine and they glow bright red. Its normal nothing to worry about.
If you dont have an EFI controller, thats a seperate issue. You need one.

you are running lean so it is producing more heat, is it lean enough to cause you problems??? who knows, if you fatten up the mix or switch to a higher octane fuel it will reduce the red. run a tank of 104 race gas and I bet they wont glow half as bright while you have that fuel in it!!

+1 on the fact that you are lean. Lean is not good for the piston. Is this a 700R? Did you just get the headers on. Perhaps the computer has to learn that you have upgraded. It should automatically compensate and adjust richer after some riding.

Should this not be illegal for the dealerships to be sending customers out and completly miss informing them. and what you wanna bet if your cooked your motor they would say no warrenty and try to get your cash.. there needs to be something done about this kind of stuff.

I remember on a web site that it stated you had to get a programmer. I have never seen on yamaha web site that it would compensate automatically. I remember dirt wheels saying that it would. That is VERY false. My dealer told me that if you uncork it you need a programmer or risk extensive engine damage

yes it is a 06 700r. as far as the efi controller where do I get one, how much, and are they pretty self explanitory? as far as the quad "learning and adjusting" for my pipe, headers and air filter, i don't think so, I have at least 40 hours on it and I had that stuff put on before I brought it home. When I did I asked the yamaha guy if any of that would void my warrenty and he said since it's yamaha parts put on at a yamaha shop it wouldn't. He could just be saying what I want to here though.

the fuel system management units range in price from 180 to 300 dobeck prob. the cheapest, and others like trinity, or power comander a little more pricey, they come with extensive instructions. Just search the web for those, or pick up a quad mag and you'll find them.
