Default 660 Gurus, advice needed.

I have a 04 raptor. I want to install a 11.1 piston, stock bore, and a hot cam stage 1. I do not race, just need alittle more uuummmph while trail riding. I have read that the rappy has a weak rod. My main concern is will this setup be dependable, or am I going to always have the thought of a broken rod haunting my brain? The quad has less than 30 hours on it and I am the original owner of it so I know the motor is up to par. I maintain it religiously.
I also am asking if anyone has a clue on where to start for jetting on this quad with the above additions, piston and cam, to the already on, Gytr headpipe, silencer combo. Also the stock airbox has some holes in it with a k&n filter. Anybody running a setup close to this, or some peeps with some advice speak up. Thanks in advance, matt

If you use a Wiseco piston you should be good. Most of the problems with the rod seem to be with using JE pistons and long high rev runs up the dune hills or similar riding.
170/175 mains and 25 pilots would be close and a good starting point.

I ran that same setup (first with stg 1 cam then stg 2) for over a year and have nothing but good things to say about it. Ran stock rod and it was extremely dependable and very powerful. Realistically it was all I think a recreational rider every needs. Looking back I really should have left my bike in that state of tune for overall rideability, I guess racing gets you going a little farther than you normally would.

Thanks madddogg. Do you happen to remember what your jetting was if you were still running stock carbs? Or can you give me a starting reference point for pilot and the mains? 660 gave me an answer but I want to make sure its close before I order jets. thanks

I ran a little richer at 185/190 on the 4th clip of the CT needle but Sixsixt's directions would be my starting point. I was running one of his airbox eliminators and a fairly high flow CT pipe so unless you match or exceed those specs I'd start out leaner.

Okay thanks for the advice guys. I just ordered a hotcam stage 1 and am going to Wiseco in the morning to pick up the piston kit. I will order my jets tomorrow too. Now one more question. As for starting adjusting the carbs, should I leave my factory needles in the factory clip setting? As for the pilot jets, should I like run em in all the way and back them out like 2 turns to start with? Thanks, matt

I've had good luck using the needles that come in the GYT-R jet kit, it also comes with the 25 pilots but only goes to 165 on the mains. You'll need to get some bigger mains if you get that kit. I always start on the middle groove and go from there.
As far as the mixture screws: stock 22.5 pilots 3 turns out, 25 pilots 2 1/4 turns
