Raptor 700 fuel map change at dealer?
#1
I was reading a post on another forum (i think posting a link is against the rules) about another person having lean fuel problems after installing an exhaust and intake kit on his Raptor 700. He wrote:
I called a few of my local dealers, they don't know anything about this. Before I spend $400.00 for Power Commander (which is worth it, i'm just tight on money right now) I'd like to know if there is any truth to the factory fuel setups.
I have the GYTR intake kit,air filter and header back exhaust. When I installed it, the machine ran lean as could be. I had a lot of popping from the exhaust. I took it to my local dealer to change the map setting. The EFI system has three pre-set maps in it,so I was told. They hooked up the raptor to they're exhaust meters as well as the diagnostic computer and reset my Raptors system and was able to set it up for the correct settings to make it run best. They charged me $65.00 and in my opinion it was vey worth it.

An aftermarket controller is the only way you can change the mapping. I don't know why Yamaha would even think of programming 3 seperate maps and have them available for the dealer to change for your modifications. Besides, the EFI only compensates for altitude, not modifications.
Spend the money, get yourself a PCIII, you can make changes via a laptop or manually with 3 dials on the PCIII. There are other controllers out there also, where a computer or laptop is not necessary, they'll work just fine, the PCIII just gives you more options for fine tuning your fuel maps and you can store different maps on your hard drive in a folder if you need to make any changes.

There are Select Yamaha dealers that have the knowledge and equipment that can adjust a calibration value. This allows the EFI to be calibrated within a small range incase there are any problems with fuel mixture. At its maximum ritchness it can compenstate a little for mods but it can only be varied 10% which is not enough to make the engine run spot on with an exhaust and high flow filter. It can be adjusted so it won't be dead lean, but never to run at optimal tune as an aftermarket EFI controller will allow you to do.
Even the dealer will tell you to get a controller if they know what they are doing when it comes to EFI.

I am still curious about the factory yamaha tweaks. I'd like to max out the settings to see what happens. Anyone know a dealer in the Chciago area that is capable/knowledgeable of this?
