Hey yall i used to be on here and i was basically a beginner at riding. Wanted a machine way to big for me and that made it never happen. Though i still don't have my own machine i ride alot. I've researched and rode some quads I've been looking at. What i need to know is what your opinions are so i could check into those also. My Weather conditions are:

Middle of LP Michigan so warm summers cold winters
some snow, some rain
Lots of trails and tracks also

Ok so i need a quad that will ride great in snow or rain or 80-90 Degree tops weather. I looked at alot of sport quads but lately i have been riding my friends Honda Recon its very nice. I want the quad to be manual, fast, and i would love to put a nice lift kit on it. I need a pretty durable/ reliable quad also. I wanna be able to ride. My top 3 choices are

Honda Recon
Banshee
Blaster

These is where it all comes to the problem. My dad wants to get a yamaha so its more likely to be blaster or banshee. Now i know that the blaster is more my size ( im 14 , 5'3 , and about 105.) But i know this guy who works with my dad who is a Banshee tech and he is amazing. So my dad really wants me to get the banshee. I also know you have to buy 2 of everything with the banshee. But will either really fit my needs?

If someone could answer this it would really make my choice easier. If you have another idea let me know.

P.s. It doesn't really have to be Yamaha just have a better chance of getting it if it is.

P.s.s Im small i know but i will have other family members riding it so I can't be just to fit my needs. Im probably in a beingger/ intermediate range also.

The banshee can be a real handful to ride but they are alot of fun. If I was going for a 2 stroke I would go ahead and go for the banshee just for the fact I don't really like the blaster. The blaster may be more your type for just starting out. Ride both of them if you get a chance and see which on fits you best.

i see that you want to put a lift kit on your new quad, does that mean you ride mud? because they dont make lifts for any of the quads you mentioned......
anywhooo....i would recommend either the blaster, honda 300ex, raptor 350
dont mean to bust your bubble but i think the banshee might be too much for a beginner/intermediate rider.....just my opinion
hope this helps

Well I guess it depends on how much you have riddenand what you ride.

I would not normally suggest a Banshee for a beginner because they are tempermental things but then again if you start on that you may never know the difference.

But since you are a smaller guy I'd suggest the Blaster or 300ex. They are big enough for a larger rider but small enough for you so it works out nicely.

The Recon will probably bore you quickly. If you were going that route I'd suggest a 250ex instead.

Lots of detail here, but I can summarize: Blaster or 300ex unless you think you can handle a Banshee.

Well first off thanks for all the posts. Second off i ride in Michigan so mud is a yes. A lift kit would be cool i probably wont get one though. But the first time a rode about a year and ahalf ago was on ice on a lake. I rode a Susuki Quadrider 400 i believe and i had trouble shifting but then i got the hang of it and i started riding my friends Banshee... not having any problems with it. I forgot to mention also i could get a polaris. I would die on a Predator so that's out of my range.. but if i could get a automatic what about the Scrambler 500? I was also talking to my dad and he said i should get a quad that will last me 2-5 years and i won't have to pout a lot of money into it. So i would ride almost every weekend making my skill level go up most defiantly. So if i would get bored with the blaster and i would have to put 500 + into why not spend the extra money. And buy a Banshee and i would have to work up a little to be able to fully handle it, but once i do i still would have plenty of time to ride have fun and get better... This means no critisim to anyones posts either. Im checking into the honda 300-400 ex so thanks for those ideas. The thing is my dad is like leaning wayy over to a banshee. If there is a better quad i need some good reasons to buy that one.

Thanks again and please reply,
Tony

Forget the Banshee. It is going to be to much of a hassle for you to rejet for the weather and plus they are more of a handful to ride than something like a Pred(which you seem to have already ruled out.) At your current skill level, I would stay away from the 400cc and up sport quads. If you are going Yamaha, it would have to be between the Blaster and the 350 Raptor, with the edge going to the Rappy if you are looking for something to more or less gas and go for the next 5 years. The 300EX is also a great choice. None of these quads is going to have any trouble moving a 105Lb human. Technically per the CPSC, you should be on a 90 until you are 16!

The blaster is a nice quad to start on, but maybee if your willing to look @ a 4 stroke I'd go for a Raptor 350 or a 400ex but the best bang for your buck overall would be a blaster.
