Default took the plunge on a H1

I finally did it! I got my H1 that I wanted for so long, the only thing is that I have never owned a brand new machine before and I thought I would ask everyone here what the best way to break in the motor would be? Thanks ahead of time for any input!

Hey rooch, welcome to the H1 club! I am a beliver that for engine break in you don't baby it. Vary the throttle, don't let it sit and idel, and don't go full throttle - unless you just punch it for a few seconds then let up. But don't ride WOT or pull any heavy loads. If you really want to do it right change the oil after 20 miles, then again at 100, and that is when you can put in the synthetic oil. Be sure you get the right oil filter though, the H1's have a taller filter then the rest of the AC's. SOme dumb dealers don't know this and will try and sell you the shorter one. Good luck! My dealer got on the phone with Cat about the filter and Cat told them that either filter is fine for the H1

Don't beleive it!!!!! They both will fit, however the taller one is better, and should be used!!!! Your dealer is just trying to sell you a filter because he doesn't stock the tall one. Two owners of AC shops informed me of this, If you need help finding a tall filter I can send you the contact info.

Boy I have no idea. I am sure a K&N filter or another high quality brand would do a good job too. I just stink with the AC filter because it is easy.

How hard is it to get to the air filter on the H1 and does anyone have an aftermarket filter for it yet? UNI, K&N or any others? And can you get aftermarket electronic parts for them yet? I was thinking about join the H1 club. I was at the dealer today. But i'm not sure if i'm going to join the Brute 650 Club, or H1 club.

And about breaking that motor in....Caterman is right, keep that throttle moving, don't hold it in any spot for a long period of time. It can sometimes get annoying when your riding it but its worth the trouble. MAke sure its warmed up before you take off, and in earlier stages ride if for like 10 min, then the next day for a half hour and so on. WOrk your way up till you get about 50-100 miles on it. Probalby don't have to wait till 100 but can't hurt. Motor makes alot of revolutions in 50 or even 25 miles

It is not hard to get at the air filter. Just pull out the storage box. K&N has an air filter for it part #AC-6504

There is getting to be a lot more available for the H1. Clutch kits, filters, etc. I even heard of EFI. For more info on what mods can be done to the H1, check this site out Arctic Chat Lots of good info there too. The Brute 650 club would be a good one to join as well. Good luck!!!
