Default 660 Edelbrock/FCR airbox mods/eliminate, where? how?

I really need to find a way to eliminate the 2 to 1 aluminum intake plenum that is apart of the Edelbrock carb. I know I'm losing top-end with it and I got 2 weeks till the dunes. I'd really like the SixSixT unit but apparently it is not sold anymore. There is a ESR AirBox Eliminator for the YFZ but I'm not sure it will fit right. So I have two options, one is from this thread Edelbrock carb without the Airbox However I'm not sure if I will have enough support for the Edelbrock just mounted to the engine. Since the poster never posted his results.

The other is to just mod my current box with cutout holes and deal with the current plenum.

Any possible suggestions?

Check out my photo page to see what I did for a single Lectron carb installed on a raptor. I'm not sure how you could have used one of my adapters.

The way you have the Lectron setup on the black Raptor is exactly what im talking about. However I can probably just install K&N RU-0880 directly onto the carb. What do you think?

I don't usually like direct mounting a filter but in your case I think it's better then the Edlebrock set-up. That set-up doesn't look like it would be the best way to do it. I think a little porting of the intake manifold would help your top end also, the Edlebrock intake doesn't have the best finish.

I have found a couple of options today one way is to mount an import ricer style 2.5" pipe with a 45° angle. Details on them are vague but the one im looking at looks to be around 1.5' long and at $23 inc. shipping. Could probably cut it down .5' near the elbow and mount that end to the Edelbrock. With that angle and the angle the carb sits, I'm guessing possibly a 20° slope and should clear the seat. I also discovered that one of the stock intake tubes fit perfectly on the carb but I would have to put another hardened 2" pipe into it in order to mount a filter to it. One problem with it is that it only fits on the airbox side of the tube, 62mm>50mm where the filter would mount. Second issue is that it curves up toward the seat leaving little room. I could cut the tube at the 2nd rib up. There it would point down at 40° or so.
I've uploaded some pics pending moderator approval.

My question is why do you think there needs to be some distance between the carb and the filter?

I'm not sure why, probably turbulant air. But every time I've seen someone try it both ways an intake tube always works better.
