01 400EX w/ scary cracks

Just noticed numerous small cracks on the underside of engine. They are not deep cracks but almost paint-like cracks. Not visible without skid plate removal. Anybody? Thanks
PS I've run about ten tanks of fuel so far.

I noticed on the center engine cases (not the side covers) what look like small cracks also... It's been like that since day 1, I think they are a result of the casting process (the center section of the cases aren't polished/painted like the side covers. I have noticed the same thing on cast aluminum parts on cars.

I think if they were truly cracks, you would have oil leaking, or at least seeping.... try looking at the cases either in the front, or top (say under the starter area) and see if it has the same small lines.

They are not cracks, but in fact casting marks. I have seen these on various Hondas I have owned as well as those of other riders.

Nothing to worry about...

Yeah, I saw those on my Recon's differential.
The harmless cobweb-looking lines are just a result of the technique used to manufacture the cases.
