Default Jetting ?s for Oldmanracing's carb mods.

Thanks for your post OMR on the stock carb mods.
I have done all of them except for the filter on the carb vent, but will be doing that tonight as I just got a filter that will work.

The carb it set to OMR starting specs:
175 DJ Main
3rd groove on the DJ needle.
I have a K&N filter (with outerwear) in the air box with its lid on and the snorkles cut 9 in.

I have a modded endcap, Big Gun CDI, and the stock carb mods on my 2000 DS. I was ridding at 2200 to 2800 feet and it was around 65F.

I put a good three hours of hard riding on the DS, pulled the plug after riding and it is just showing a real faint light grey color at the tip of the porcelain around the electrode. It ran stronger than before the mods, but I think there is a little more to get out of it with some tuning.

I'm new to these CV type carbs and my question is on the final tuning. In reading the post it seems it is better on these carbs to adjust the needle, setting the midrange, first and then set the main jet. I just want to make sure because I usually do it the other way around, set the high speed first and work down on direct pull carbs.

Thanks to all of you on this forum. I have really learned a lot about the DS and how to get it set up on the cheap. This is one of the most mature forums I have come across, and really adds to having a Bomb.

With the Big Gun CDI you can raise the needle to the 4th groove from top. The curve is alittle more aggressive.
The stock and DJ needles have a very aggressive taper. The DS being not a high rpm motor(stock) and with having two spark plugs, needs alot of mid range fuel. The mid range circuit overlaps the high speed circuit alot.
Try this and read your plug again. If the end of plug(base) is grey, then jet up to DJ180. You want to see half grey and black on base.

Thanks OMR,
I will bump up the needle, and go from there.
Take care!

Snow has just melted and the ground has turned to mud. I hope to have next mod shortly.
But the next mods will start to cost money. But the performance will be worth it.
