Dumb question
#1
I'm ready to do spring maintenance and my owners manual shows the crankcase drain plug. No where does it talk about filling the crankcase. It simply talks about refilling the transmission and the rear gear case.
Is the crankcase the same as the transmission or rear gear case? What do I use to fill it?

I believe they are referring to the motor and not the transmission. The filler should be by the rear brake pedal, and screws in (it's by the gear case filler which pulls out instead of screwing out).
I use Mobil 1 0W40 synthetic. There are several alternatives to the Polaris oil, just use the same grade. Go with whatever you feel comfortable with. Afterall, it's your quad. No sense in being nervous about what someone else said to put in it.

Are you talking about your CounterBalancer Oil? Your Scrambler is a 2-stroke, no crankcase oil. Your Honda's are 4 stroke, they have crankcase oil. If your Scrambler was the 500 then there would be crankcase oil.
Your 400's COUNTER BALANCER takes ....100ml ( a little less than 3.5oz.--->1oz = 30 ml ).
Matthew ya need to get a SERVICE MANUAL...Owners manual is not enough.
DUG
SORRY for got to say that the Counter Balancer oil you use is 10w30.

And yes, I am now awake. Was thinking of the 500 4 stroke.
You also might want to go to Polaris website and download a free parts manual. Gives you the breakdown on everything.
And the service manual is a must, as Hank said.

Thanks for the info. Now that I know I have a counterbalancer drain plug and need to refill the counterbalance fill, why do I have a plug labeled as crankcrase drain plug?
Is it simply something to drain and not refill?
Is it simply something to drain and not refill?
