Pipe Mods and Riding Area Closures
#1
Having a bad day?
A negative experience here might be partly based on a perception that you are either ignorant of the noise issues and how they are causing existing riding areas to be closed - or maybe your being belligerent with a in-your-face attitude about loud pipes that many of us are sacrificing our personal resources in defense of the loss of riding areas.
This Friday the ATV riders are being asked to show up at the MN state capital in large numbers to protest a bill that will strip trail funding and new riding area development from the state budget - and noise complaints are #2 on the list just below environmental damage.
Unnecessary ATV noise is a real problem and the video tapes played in courts and congressional hearings are hard to defend against. Everyone knows there is 2-3% of humans without the intelligence skills to resist “louder is better” – that’s no secret. But the numbers of moded pipes are much higher then what society is willing to tolerate and we can’t use mental illness as a excuse when those blessed with the ability to purchase a ATV want to “sound” more powerful then they really are.
There is a place for performance modifications. It’s in organized competition.

To cover the other side......Who are you to run your belief on every person in the world. I personally don't care for the ear spliting exhaust, but some do.
"mental illness as a excuse" I am sick of people like yourself that believe everyone is a retard because they don't agree with YOU!

Its not about me -
I would welcome any other definition of why anyone would intentionally put at risk loosing their privilege of an activity they supposedly enjoy – in full light of what is happening all around them – over and over again.
The National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI), the nation's largest mental health advocacy organization, defines mental illness as a "disorder of the brain" that "disrupts a person's thinking, feeling, moods, and ability to relate to others...[and] often results in a diminished capacity for coping with the ordinary demands of life.
I do believe the generally accepted layman’s definition of mental illness is doing the same thing over and over again – and expecting different results.
Therefore – If loud noise from moded pipes is being used to restrict riding areas all across the country – what would you call someone who knows that – and puts the loud pipe on anyways?
Some would consider it not normal.
So what is normal? The best description of normal that I have ever heard is simply “being perceived as not standing out”. Which takes into account the environment being perceived. i.e. going 200mph is normal – for a NASCAR race – not the freeway.
Its not about me because its not my definition.

WhoDat. I agree that noise is second biggest problem after unauthorized trails. However I don't get the connection to mental illness at all. I see this as more a matter of riders wanting and needing acceptance within a certain group of other riders. This is very similar to the Harley rider mentality. They need to feel that they fit into the group.
As far as I am concerned there are only two things that can get this under control. The first is closure of riding areas. The second is strict and very severe law inforcement on noise law violators. Maybe they need to consider confiscating illegal machines. That is better than closing riding areas for everyone.

I posted "we can't use mental illness as a excuse" - FlashAndGrasp turned that 180 degrees and missrepresented the words used. He also has some illness which prevents his ability to see that this is a forum for other peoples opinions. Not just his.
Like Simon might say - "not the best performance weve seen tonight"
Old Trutle - Harley Mentality? - now why doesnt anyone get upset with THAT statement! LOL
I know I know - chicks dig it...

Catterman - your defense of TrashAndDashUntilIWin gets a little blurry to me when there are statements like the above quoted text.

Ok........Just so you know.....I work nights so I cant defend myself until I get home!
If I " misrepresented the words used" then I am sorry. BUT you can look at all 3000 of my post I have made and you will NEVER find me FORCING MY OPINION ON OTHERS!!!!!! The reason I get into fights with people like you is because in your mind it is only YOUR WAY! I am for old fashioned freedom. You want loud exhaust, go for it, you want quite, go for it. BUT HERE IS THE KICKER....I take PERSONAL responsibility for myself.......If I get hurt I don't run out and sue someone.......If I ride near homes or other areas I ride the quite quad and not my loud @$$ YZ-250. and so on.......
Bear4570.....Everything I said was in the rules of the Forum and I didn't "bash" anyone
Catterman.....You are correct this stuff usually doesn't happen in the AC forum......but here lately there has been some "$hit disturbers" coming to the surface all around the forum. Thank you for the back-up. Some of these people just look at the mean, bad-man, mod........LOL
