I now have about 15 hours on my 06 BF750. I was at the sand dunes last week and became pretty concerned.
I noticed after pulling straight up a couple of Very steep dunes which really were working my motor to its MAX I would look back and see I had a fair amount of smoke behind me.
It wouldn't do it unless I was pushing it up very steep long hills. I was in High range, 4WD with the locker engaged.
When the engine would start to fall off in RPMs because of the load it would seem to burn oil. Otherwise it was fine, No smoke, Even under moderately hard loads.
It seems like it would only do it under sustained Extreme loads (30 seconds or more) when it was just clawing for all the traction it could get.

Any Ideas???

OK I just went and checked my oil level and it was just below full.
I had it serviced and the air filter was cleaned just before my trip.

I checked in my air box. I did notice a light film of oil.

What do you think?

 

It's no big deal , all the V-twins do it . The vent hose from the crankcase runs into the airbox , and when you are riding at high rpm's and especially on an incline , it blows oil up the vent tube . It will do the same thing if you wheelie the bike for a good distance . I find that if the oil level is between the marks on the dipstick , it doesn't happen as much .

Does it mean that the air filter or air box is incapable of flowing enough air to feed the motor, and it is creating a low pressure in that area then it pulls from the crank case bringing oil with it?

Can that be fixed with air box mods or a modified air filter?

What it means is that lots of oil splashing and pressure is builiding up inside the crankcase when you are running high rpm especially when you are going up hill or doing wheelie, "pushing up" engine oil into the airbox. You will still smoke even if you have high flow intake.

As long as it isn't hurting anything I guess it's alright.
