Default Pred guys, jetting help?

Hey guys,

well i got the predator back and its running good for now, (see other posts) anyway, it is running real well so i was thinking about finally getting that RATH head pipe for it. it has the PURE POLARIS (e-series) muffler on it, which came from the factory, but Polaris did not rejet it. I purchased a K&N filter (not installed yet), and want the ceramic coated rath header. Do i need to rejet with these 3 mods installed? if so what jet should i used? (never rejetted before though i have cleaned them and rebuilt carbs, so installation is not a problem, just don't know which one to run.) thanks!!! you should try rejetting heatseaker some weekend when you have the time.. after those mods it should be really needed. i'd think so anyway.

well, if you're at sea level. a 170-175 mj and 50 pilot. try air screw about 3-4 turns out and the needle 2nd or 3rd clip...thats what i'm gonna guess. i wasn't the last one to jet my four wheeler so i dont even know what i have in it....isnt that sad? You won't have no problem rejetting the carb. With the slip on and drop in K&N I would at least go up to a 155 (150 is stock) and with the header I would at least go up to a 160. If you open up the intake you'll have to go even higher.

I'm not tryin to start anything here Yammaslamma ( nice name BTW)..but even on Predator owners.com some guys send their carbs off to Nicholas cycle and they get them back and they are jetted DOWN..I had to rejet the Warrior with the same mods..however (with the Preddy) even with a 155 MJ it would fall on its face at low WOT..then would pick back up after a slight hesitation..went back to stock (150) and it runs as strong as ever..when I can get it started in the cold...hahahaha

Many guys run their carbs too rich for my taste, I like it to run properly. I can't stand sputtering, and I keep checking the plug until its the color for me.

If your filter is a K&N drop in filter(drops in the origional airbox)....then without the rath header, I'd guess around the stock settings should be fine.(152.5-155) You'll have to run it hard, and check the plug(and just feel for any sputtering). If your pred seems to be sputtering on the low end, I'd bump up the pilot jet to a 50. Also, turn the air screw to about 3 turns out. You can fine tune with the needle if need be, I'd probably put it on the 3rd clip to start. If you get the rath header, you might have to up that jetting to near 160.

I'd suggest as you get further along with getting mods, get the NC carb mods, and a twin air clamp on filter....your pred will be totally different.(these are expensive mods though). The twin air is a must, it flows just right, and gives the proper amount of torque. I've had the drop in K&N, and the Rath Intake to compare to.

I have a K&N drop in the Rath header and a PP pipe with 12 disks. Put a 155mj in and the plug was blacker than hell. Well the exhaust valves broke and one stem went through the piston, anyhow I just got it back and had the dealer put my 150mj back in as long as they had it apart. I haven't had a chance to ride it yet, but based on my experience I would leave it with the 150mj or send your carb to Nicholas Cycle for the race mod and HANG ON.

yeah i wasnt sure really. i was just taking a stab in the dark when i threw those suggestions out there. i have actually never rejetted mine i just know what i've read on the other site. i'd rather have a sniffer do the work than have it be a guessing game like that...i'm not as good as some others may be with their preds...such as brad, take what he's sayin. he knows his sheit.

ps - heatseeker i knew ya werent tryin to start anything

pss - heatseeker again,,,, haha i actually got my carb back from nicholas after the mods and it was jetted down too

Just a side note from getting your carb back from NC and it being jetted down.....this is due to him boring it out, thus more flow through there.....so you need a smaller jet again.....like from a 180-185 back down to the 172.5 range.
