Default Why should I install bigger tires on my KQ

Is there any advantage or disavantage to install 26 " tires instead of the stock 25" . How much this will correct the speed recorder ? how hard this is going to be on the clutch ?

Thanks

Increased ground clearance at the cost of a higher center of gravity. Plus they rob power from both being heavier & changing the final gearing.

Agreed. Same principle as putting big tires on a passenger truck. 38" mudders with a common 3.25 or 3.50 final drive ratio will produce a performance dog and be real careful when cornering.

Thanks for your input guys. I prefer to stay with the same size but so many peoples likes to install bigger tires that I was wondering what were the real benefit.

Furthermore the stock tire size fits well under the fenders keeping the driver and the passengers free of mud and dirt.

Once again thanks

OK first, the diff between 25 and 26 tires will gain you some ground clearence and raise you up some but you will not lose that much power, you will get a wider stand because of going to a wider tire as they increase in height also, look at your stock tire and see the tread design, now look at the after market tires alot of diff.!also are your stock tires 2ply as going with better tires they go up to 6ply,which are alot stronger and thicker in design for not getting holes in the side walls, also the lips around the rims are better, very close to the rim for not gettig sticks between thr rim and tire.the pros are alot more than the cons for getting taller tires, and the ride changes alot, look at the designs, they are all different, depending on the use of your machine and where you ride. they will help!

Good advice on the tire tread style and sidewall thickness. I live in forested mountains; few sharp rocks, no thorns or sharp sticks and had no problems with the stock design 2-plies on my prior quad. That included taking five cords of wood a year from standing trees; towing up to 30"x8' logs a good ways over rough terrain to a landing where I could get it down to sizes I could tow out in a 10 cubic foot quad sized trailer. They took serious abuse four years. The 05 KQ will also be used under the same circumstances.

While other geographical areas offer different topography challenges complete with lots of sharp objects, I can't see a benefit in changing tires to increase ground clearance for my application. I agree with BlueMan, where you ride and how you use it are the determing factors for tire selection.

You can get the better tread designs & more plies in stock sizes too, not just oversized.

I changed my tire size for hunting situations, much mud and neede more traction that standard tread.ITP's work real well, and I change them back for normal riding.

If you really needed bigger tires for your quad you wouldn't ask why
