1998 wolverine rear axle rebuild cost
#1
I just tore apart the rear axle assembly on my 98 wolverine to find out the axle was completely rounded along with the housing. What's the cost of this rebuild gonna be? I looked on several yamaha parts site, but prices varied. I'm going to obviously have to replace the rear axle and its housing, as well as all the associated seals and bearings. The ring and pinion seem fine, but I think I need to take the case apart in order to replace the housing. I'm going to have the dealership do this because of how involved it is, but I want a ballpark figure to go by before I grab my ankles. It's all apart which means I'll only be bringing the differential assembly, and shredded axle. Any help gurus?

After looking at their prices, add anywhere from 10-30 percent - yes, you'll need to grab your ankles at the local dealer.
If you are somewhat mechanically enclined, you can do this project. Get a manual either from e-bay for the disc or from the site above for a hard copy. You can do the dis-assembly / re-assembly and when it comes to pressing bearings in / out, any respectable shop can help with this as a hydraulic press exists in most of them.
If you would like to talk to me realtime, send me a pm and I'll get in touch with you from there. I've done mine - and just about everything else associated with a Wolverine - I consider myself a guru as you put it.

I recently placed a parts order with metricpowersports and these guys are for real!
I've always wanted to ditch the "Hunter Green" fenders on my Wolv and change over to the "Yamaha Blue". I've ordered factory OEM parts from BikeBandit before, so I checked with them. Turns out, they won't ship the factory fenders because they are too big. I checked with the local dealer and I'm not sure what price book they were using.
I called metricpowersports and talked to them about the fenders. They said they could ship the fenders, but since they were oversize, they would check with a couple different shippers and call me back. They called me back within 30 min. Turns out, "Brown" was over 50% higher than using a regular freight carrier (guess if your going to "Race the Truck", we are going to be the Sponsors).
Customer service like that, on top of a 10% savings...they have a loyal customer here!
