Default Polaris 500 HO Scrambler Clutch problems

Hi everyone well this is my first post on here, I have just bought a 500 scrambler, its an 01 model( Red One black seat) and I am having problems, the clutch slips when it gets warm and then it just doesnt move, the bike is standard but the guy I got it from had just put on larger wheels, the rear are AT 22x11-10 Holeshot XGT with IPT Rims.
Can some offer some advise to help me, When I got the bike he hadn't used it with the new wheels, the first time I went on it it was fine then after about 4 hours it started to slip so called him and he said that its a racing clutch and he would put the standard one back in so thats what he did, and now when you hit the throttle it is not doing alot, defo a clutch problem as it smells of burning where the clutch is. What do i need to do to sort this problem? PLEASE HELP ME SOMEONE!!!!!

Have you checked the belt? Over time the belt can become glazed and it won't get any bite.

When the guy put the standard clutch back in he changed the belt, so its not that, do I need an uprated clutch for the bigger tyres. I think the belt is shagged anyway as I could smell burning and it was getting very hot where the cover is but if he put a new belt on what has caused it to knock the new belt out.

you might take off the clutch cover and watch it while you give it gas. you might be able to see the belt slip, or something else wrong.

I am sure the belt is slipping but what is causing it as the guy put a new one in it.

WELCOME STEVE...
Should not be smok'in belts for sure. Did you get a shop manual with the machine?
You need to check the alignment between the Primary( FRONT ) and the Secondary ( REAR ) clutch assemblies first, cause if you went from a " racing " clutch? to a "stock" clutch? without checking the alignment the belt may be riding the sheaves improperly.
Did ya know the seller ??
Is the machine doing any forward creeping while it is idling ? You really need a shop manual cause it will help you out in alignment and adjustment of the secondary assembly.
Cant help ya if the tires would case the problems but my MECHANICAL THOUGHTS ARE NO !!
I still have the original belt on my 2000 Scrambler but have adjusted the secondary shims a couple of times since I got it in 2002. If it simple shims the different sizes dont even cost that much from the dealer...I think I bought 5 or 6 different size thicknesses for a couple bucks.
Hope you get it straightened out. GET A MANUAL........DUG
