Personaly, i like the way ex feels in the trails and woods. i have always been riding a honda so i prefer the feel of those machines. the 660 will beat a stock 400 in top speed and in acceleration. Again you can not always go by which one is faster. you have to consider the rider skill as well. i had a 400ex and loved it. i couldnt' keep up with the 660 in the dunes or any where i rode. i never took it to a track, or raced in the woods, so i can't tell you which one is better there.

i like honda, i like yamaha, own a raptor and know that the raptor will beat a 400ex everywhere, top speed of an ex is about 62-65mph and a raptor does 75mph. acceleration, raptor will leave the 400ex and continuoisly pull away. but you may be able to rider better than the guy on the raptor??? both are good quads

I, in my opinion think the ex will beat the raptor in only 1 place, I take that back, 2 places! And those are wheelies and reliability. The EX is just outdated, slow, not bashing on the Honda but that's just my opinion.

Hondaman440ex has it right. My buddy has a piped and jetted 400ex and weighs 105lbs less than me. My Raptor is piped, jetted and I dropped a tooth on the front sprocket. I beat him but, with the Raptor carrying my load, it isn't as bad as you would think. I have spent a lot of time on his Honda. The 2 major differences I found were handling and the gearbox. The 400ex handles awesome and the tranny shifts so damn smooth.
I love my Raptor but, if I were a smaller fellow, I might have made a different decision. Try to ride them both. If you can't, go sit on each and see which feels more comfortable.
You will be happy with both.
