Grizzley Oil Change
#1
I recently changed oil on my Grizzley. My owners manual stated that I needed 2.11 quarts of oil. I added the oil and then I started it to let it fill the filter. I then let it set for a while and then check the oil. When I checked the oil the dipstick showed way overful. Has this happened to anyone else? Before I drained the oil, I started the machine to warm up the oil so it would drain better. Any info would be helpful.

I just got a new 2006 660 and it was about 1/2 quart overfull from the factory...I had about 1.4 hours on it when I checked the level. I siphoned about 13 ounces out of it through the oil fill hole. It is still somewhat overfull. I may remove more oil later.
The level on the dipstick NOT SCREWED IN was 1/2 inch above the Max level at the crosshatched area.

Did you remove some oil?
Something as simple as checking the oil should not be so confusing. The manual clearly shows the oil should be in the crosshatched area. Why would Yahmaha specify 2.11 quarts and have the level 1/2 inch above the mark they show in the manual. The oil drains back down in less than 5 minutes.
This is ridiculous.

I thought I was using oil because your supposed to start it and check. When I checked the oil prior to starting, it read full. Ran it, and it wasn't even on the dipstick. What we supposed to do, count to 100 before checking?

The reasoning is likely that some oil should be in the upper oil galley and that is why they recommend to check it "after a few minutes" after stopping. However, on my Grizz, most of the warm oil returned to the sump in 1 minute and almost all of it in 3 minutes and all of it (back to the cold checking mark) in 5 minutes. So, I will be checking it cold before I start and then after about 5-10 minutes of riding. Or check it at the end of the day's ride and be ready for the next day. In brief: check it often!
