Crossing The Polarity..........DOH
#1
I was hooking the jump start pack up to my 99 warrior just now and I had the postive clamp sprung off the battery side of the solenoid were i had it hooked up and touched the frame for a second or 2 making some sparks. I figured opps no big deal so I got it started let it warm up it was running fine at idle but wont do anything above 1/4 throttle. I just pops, hesitates and backfires....could this be in anyway related to the postive arcing to the ground. I know some cdi and rectifier/regulators will fry if the polarity is hooked up backwars so I dident know if the + touching the frame could have done that? Anyway what would be the symptoms of a bad cdi? I dont know if something just happend to go bad or if I cooked something.
thanks.
thanks.

You just shorted out the jump pack right? I don't think that would have done any damage, but I guess it's possible that you messed up the cdi. Usually when a cdi goes out it's all the way gone though, either all or nothing.
Did you check the parking brake sensor? This is a common problem with yamahas, the sensor can get stuck, and it sets a rev limiter around 2000 rpm. Try unplugging the sensor from the harness.

The + of the pack hit the frame, hopefully its that sensor I just sprayed some k&n filter cleaner on it so Ill have the filter back on in 20 minutes or so and Ill try the parking brake sensor.

problem solved thanks for the help, I just unpluged the parking brake connector. I havent even touched the parking brake in a week I guess they malfunction pretty easily.
