Mobile1 15W-50
Mobile1 SUV 5W-40.
Shell Rotella Synthetic 5W-40

This is all I ever run and I purchase the oils in that order.

If you are running a sport quad with a wet clutch, that oil is going to shorten clutch life. You don't need to run Maxima by any means, but you will need something that is specifically designed for a motorcycle style clutch. I have no idea if it matters with a cvt though.

As long as you use an oil that is not labeled "Energy Conserving" you can use traditional engine oil. "Energy Conserving" oil has additives to help fight friction that would be harmful to a wet clutch set-up and cause slipping.

I have a 1999 400ex and all it has ever had in it was Mobil 1, and its still on the original clutch. Im fixing to change everything over to the Shell Rotella Synthetic 5W-40 though. I have read that is some good stuff and a lot cheaper than Mobil 1.

why motorcycle oils were developed is because of ariation of the oil . Air compresses and liquids dont so it will slowly starve the motor. Plus like they said above friction mods. in the oil will hurt the clutch . mobil is good but i use amsoil.

No, I'd go with a motorcycle oil to protect your wet clutch, I believe it's Vavoline that makes an ATV oil thats only like $4 a quart, my self I use MOBIL 1's 10-40 Synthetic Motor Cycle Oil but I only change the oil once a year so.
