Default K&N Filters???

Hi all!

I have a question regarding K&N filters for the 650. Somewhere I've read that this filter does not protect as well as a foam filter. I this true???

I've used K&N filters before but I've never owned the machine for a long time...at least more than three years. I ride mostly in Illinois and that can tend to be a dusty dirt environment. Some sand riding in Indiana but only a couple times a year and I'm not certain that it could be considered sand...more like very fine gravel.

Thanks!

oil your filter per the instuctions( i use FAB 1 oil on mine.. better value) & use an OUTERWARE & that will help to ensure the dust & crud stay out. we ride at the dunes & desert.. lots of dust, no problems with this set up.

Let me add that I am using a prefilter. The filter I just bought came "pre-oiled"

I agree that foam filters better in the fine powder dust environment.
But I do use the K&N, they filter well if maintained properly. after cleaning the filter it must be alowed to fully dry before aplying oil, and don't be sparing, you can't put too much oil on but not enough and it will not catch all the dirt.
let it drip the excess off on your bench overnight before intsalling to quad.

my outerwears gets cleaned 4 times to 1 filter service. I use the same K&N cleaner on it too, and nothing I mean nothing compares to K&N cleaner from the big squirt bottle, don't waste your time with dishsoap in the sink, get the cleaner, use it like directions say, and rinse with hot water from inside out, its awesome stuff.

bombaman i assume you speak of Badlands dust in indiana maybe we'll run into eachother there sometime.

just to correct Hightower..... If you have a wife let the excess oil drip out on your couch over night.

I have emailed K&N about the so-called sand fine dust rumors. They say it won't happen. Anyway I've run K&N and outerwears for 7+ years without a hiccup. Make sure to "tuneup" the K&N though.
