Default Lite up the night

I am looking to add a set of driving lights to the DS to really light up the night. Should I be concerned on Draw? Do I need to do anything special? Electrical is not really my thing.

You have about 240 watts to work with for lights. I run 2x75 watts aux, and the 65 watt main. I have no problems.

Where is the best place to Mount them. I have a 2000 so it's not the Baja. Also the best way to wire? Do you wire them in to the high beams? or did you run them on a sep switch?

I bent some pieces of 1/4 inch alum, and mounted them to the top shock mount, where the baja lights would go... there is a hole on the top. I used trail tech lights and ran a relay to the high beam wire, and a hot from the battery. Everything runs off the main light switch.

Trail tech also has a HID light availabe that is reasonably priced. It puts out 100 watts equivelent brightness and draws only30 watts each. Trail tech and Laser Star both have replacement handlebar mount that you can mount the lights to so that they shine whereever you turn the bars. I had a dual 50 watt laser Star set-up that way on my DS and it was most excelent.
I used a relay though so that I didnt risk burning out my light switch. My relay wiring diagram is on Eaglecollectors site. If you want to use a relay, it shows you how to wire it.

Fatholly, 2x75=150+65=215 watts /13.5 volts= 16 amps!!! all through your light switch. Seriously dude, I predict darkness in your future. I would suggest a relay to you as well.

the ignition switch is rated for the same 25A main fuse under the seat, I run two 55w baja lights and also the 65w main beam and have not had issues. the baja light kit is relayed, but the relay died on me twice so I did awaya with it and installed an led lit rocker switch on the dash for them.

trailtech makes billet aluminum clamp on lights for installing on frame tubing, I've seen DS's with them and they look sweeat, check their site. ALso you can keep your eye out for a BAJA light kit somebody removed from their DS to turn it into a drag bike, that would come with teh aluminum mounts and guards and wiring harness comeplete with relay and everything. this is what I did and have on my '01, compliments of Sandbomber, thansk again man!

Nope read my setup again... I have a relay run off the high beam hot... I actually run both the aux light and the stocker off the relay.

that's a good idea running the relay coil off the high beam only, so you can still roll into camp with just the low beam and no auxiliaries, to be polite to fellow camper's night eyes!

Also, when I am sitting with the engine at idle I will leave the aux lights and highs off until just before we get going. Although I am sure I have enough juice to run everything, I like to take a little strain off my system and only run the low beam stocker and no aux unless I'm actually moving. Just a precaution to keep the charging system strong... especially at night. The low beams in camp is nice for the neighbors too.

Oh ok, missed that the first time, my bad.

You sure about that? The switch gear is the same as Yamaha has used for some time. I personally have seen the contacts melt down from excessive amperage. This was on a Yamaha Ute (can't remember the model but same switch) that had a couple 50 watt lights added to the system. He ran them for a couple months before the switch failed.
Bomb relays the two 35 watt lights on the Baja for a reason. They wouldn't spend the extra money on the relay if they felt the switch was up to the added amperage.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying this to be arguementative and if you are happy with it then so am I. Just want to provide enough information for others who may use this thread to sway their judjement.
