Default How many use the stock swingarm with a built motor?

I searched and did not find much on this topic so i will ask.I almost exclusively dune with my Baja and i also like to drag against anyone who will line up with me. Although my Baja will not be a power monster it will be much faster than stock when i get it back from the builder next week and i am going to try to stay with the stock swingarm.Who has been running the stock swingarm on a built motor and how is it working for you.The money is not a problem but if i can get away with a stock swingarm i would prefer to do so.I like to loft the front end over obstacles a lot and that is the main reason why i want to keep the front end light but of course if it is too light that could be a problem.I think i know the answer to my next question but would it be unreasonable to expect to be able to run the stock swingarm with the addition of a nitrous system?Any opinions will be appreciated.

I think you will be ok as long as you paddle the bike for your application. Again, if you run nitrous, just think of this same scenario. I would run 2 paddles less and gear it a little higher than with an extended swingarm. Now it will be a blast to ride,

Choose. Thanks for the quick response.I am pretty sure that i will be able to get away with the stocker for most of what i do but some of the steeper dune climbs may be a problem. We have some pretty steep tree lined trails to climb out of at our dunes here but with a litle body english i should be okay.I am not trying to put anything over on people but it should be fun to line up and race with what looks like a totally stock DS that has some serious go power.I have raced a few sleeper quads myself and i have been caught off guard by them but the second race is a different story.Next weekend rain or shine i will be out there on the sand breaking in that motor.I am anxious!!!

No problem man. See I aint all that bad,

Seriously though, keep us posted on your experience. I would think somewhere around a 6 or 7 paddle should get it done with about a 16/40 or maybe even a 17/40 gearing. You want a little more wheel spin than you would normally want while running an extended arm. Now they might beat you out the hole which is the case most of the time, but if your running the hill then you shouldnt have any problem reeling them in. i used to run the stocker with my motor. i didnt have a problem for the most part. its a blast to dune and just play around with, but when dragging , eventually u will want a longer swing-arm. its alright at first, u can break the tires loose on the startiing line, then if u have enough motor(like i do...lol..) u can reel em back in...but then u start running into those banshees that u cant give a head start to, so i would romp on it on the line. if your REAL competitive like me, u wont want to get out of her, needless to say, i have had my back on the sand more than a few times..

thebigshow.Believe me i am competitive to the point where i push it too hard when my backs tells me otherwise.I was trying to beat two banshees last year at the dunes on my 690 Raptor and my back was so messed up that i could not feel my left leg and i was missing shifts, now that was overly competitive(and stupid).I am just being stubborn in wanting to retain the look of a stock machine but i will probably have to give in and extend the swingarm length if i want to do well at the drag hill but i will try first without one.

i don't think you will like it mike, i think you will loose to much at the hill if we rode more flats you might be ok but i always was having to let off on the hill the front gets to light when you add the hill.

Bill you are probably right .I am expecting to have considerably more power than before and for any serious dragging i am sure it would help.So what are my options for a swingarm that will hold up to pounding through the whoops? At Florence you know how beat up the hill can get and anything inferior would break easily so if i go with a swingarm what do you think would hold up?A 4" over should be enough i would think especially if i still want to be able to lift the front end up easily.I guess i should give in and think about getting a swingarm since i know i will be doing quite a bit of hill dragging and there it would really help.Lets see now i have to somehow convince the wife that it is necessary???

Still running the stocker myself. My build doesn't hit nearly as hard as it should but, still good power and I am fine with the stocker.

I don't drag that much and if I lose the hole shot I can usually reel in the ones that are in my league since the hill is so long.

For the short drags you'll want to hit it hard and the swinger will help.

Hey I have a stock on mine and I am pushing 175hp on the bottle. I come out of the hole easy then once i have some speed I give it hell. I try not to let them get more than half way up the hill before i catch them. I do need to back off at the top you know (LOL). But seroius I do run a stock swingarm on my DS1200 Nitrous Quad. I have to feather the gas sometimes on the hill to keep it down but not bad. It depends on the sand that day. I have thought about extending it but it's such a fun duner I hate to mess with it. I do not want mine to become a hill shooter Quad. I would rather go riding than sit at the hill and wait for takers.
