When bomberboy had his 250ex he disconnected what he thought was the rev limiter rode it for about a month before it wouldn't start, he'd disconnected the charging system, without lights they will run a long time before they die. Check your charging system.

Put a voltage meter on your bat. Rev the engine. If the volts go up to 14 volts or so it should be charging. If the voltage doesn't go up then its not charging. Mine went a short period of time when it wasn't charging. I just checked all the conections and made sure they were all connected. You have some yellow wires coming from the case on the right side. They go to a conection under the gass tank. then to the back of your quad to the regulator i believe it is. check those wires again. Start it and check the bat voltage with the volt meter. Rev the engine to see if your voltage increases.

Do a search on "battery" and go to the forth page (yah its a popular subject). There is plenty of detailed info on how to check the different parts of your charging system.
Do the volt test as Naturalite suggested, if its charging, get yourself a dry cell battery and your problems will go away.

I believe its a problem with one of the direct starting gears that gets jammed.I checked the battery connections everything is tight. The battery is also new and fully charged,I double checked it with the meter aswell everything shows ok. I thought it might be the relay in between the battery and the starter but its clicking so thats ok. So what i did was disconnect the battery and relay and ran str8 current to the starter with a battery booster same click click.weird so i thought it might be the starter was stuck so i took off the starter and ran current through it and the starter spun perfect. So im figuring its one of the gears that can be stuck. So i got the bright idea LoL of push starting it just to see if it will run and it did, started up fine,so then i shut it off and tried it with the starter and it started up perfect. weird sh*t oh well so far so good.

Hey man my 04 X had the same problems as you. Dead battery. I replaced the battery three times, checked the bike out with a volt meter many many many times, changed the cdi box, bought a $100.00 battery tender. It all ended up being a bad starter. If you get a chance check your PM I sent you my number to call me. I will fill you in with the details. I had no idea that that was the problem. I thought my dealer was full of crap when they told me but ever since they replaced the starter. No problems. Later, D
