Need Help buying a quad.
#1
I have started looking for a Quad for mostly work on my property, trail rides and Hunting.
some requirements i have come up with.
EFI
Auto (unless you can a LOT more performace with a 4 or 5 speed, what ever they are)
Front locker
Independant rear suspention
more then 500cc's the larger the better. ( I am mostly looking at 650s and 700s)
Tow about 1000 pounds
oh and yea this is kinda sissy, it has to look good to the eye........
so far I am looking at the following:
Polaris Sportsman 700
BRP Outlander 650 EFI
Artic Cat 650 EFI SE
I am open to other suggestions as for as brands go. This is where I am at right now.
I have read the 1st 5 pages of this forum and I am still confused.
I think all of these are perdy well matched in power,Quality, Longgevity etc. However the BRP and the AC are V-twin. I think I like that i think it would make more TQ? how do they all compare as for as True 4wd? when I am at my property I am always in atleast 4hi in my jeep and truck and I dont want to limited to 3wd on a quad.
the Quad will be used for work mostly hauling a trailer, dragging trees we are clearing from the property. It will also see a lot of trail time and Hunting backwoods fun. Not a lot of Hotroding but typical Jeep kinda stuff.
any suggestions?

I dont think AC has a 650 EFI, but they have a 700. I have a V2, which has zero trouble in the Minnesota winter, unlike alot of quads without efi. SP doesnt really have a manual front locker, along with bom, they have a different system (AWD, Visko Lock) So if i was looking for those, i would get the Cat. Not knocking the other two, they are nice quads, but i would choose AC, and i did!

you are right the 650 is not EFI, I am gunna go check out a few dealers after work and get a better handle on them.
also, I would really like this Question answered before I go to the dealers....
do the V-Twin's make more power mostly TQ then the big singles?

I went a tested a few and........
I just put my deposit down on a Polaris Sportsman 700 EFI, I may get the 800 when I go in to finalize the paperwork but I think the money for the extra CC's will and should be put toward a winch.
I finally got it for 7455.00 out the door. I am perdy please with that! I dont think they made much money on me :icon16:
Thanks for the replies ya'll!

Only thing AC makes that is efi is the 700efi, which is the suzuki King Quad 700efi engine. The OL 650 is a v-twin. The Cat 700efi is a single cylinder. The polaris 700efi is a parrallel twin.
Of the ones you've mentioned, the polaris is going to have the most comfortable ride. After 6 hours on a polaris you'll be able to go out to dinner with the wife. The AC is going to have the most ground clearance making it the best mudder. Both the polaris and AC are the largest and heaviest utility quads made. The bomb 650efi is much smalller, lighter, and the thrill factor is incredible. It is the fastest of the 3, and is the most sporty ride. It is not as comfortable as the popo, and will not out mud the AC, but it will have no problem towing what you need it to. I spent 6 hours on an 800 bomb outlander this past friday testing it out. The 650 is the same machine minus 150cc, but the 650 will outrun everything in it's class, and most above it's class.
Now if you're open for suggestions, I'd say check out the suzuki king quad 700efi. It will also do everything you need and will save you quite a bit of $$$$$$.

TO be honest the Suzuki never even made it on my radar. I looked at them but kept gravitating toward Polaris. everything I read here and other forums suggested this was one of the hardest working Quads on the market. So I wont be regretting this plus for 7500 bucks out the door, I got a great deal.
thanks for the replys guys. I look forward to hanging around here and learning.

Congrats on the popo. Yes the Polaris is a good machine. I should know, I too own one. $7500 is not bad. We just baught an 06 800efi with a Warn 2500# winch for $7200.00 Out the Door. Without the winch it was $7000.00. Quads tend to be cheaper in the South.

So, I have heard.
I am happy cause I started with an out the door price 9996.00 at 1st. I have not picked up the quad yet, but I have all the papers here. I negotiated over the phone!!!!!!! I sign all the papers on friday. I may get a winch out of the deal yet. if that happens I will be a happy camper. VERY happy!
thank you all for the support.
