2006 KQ or Grizz??
#1
Hi All,
I am looking to become a first time ATV owner and am unsure about which one I want. I have been looking at KQ 700's and Grizzly 660's and hear great things about both. I was hoping to get some feedback from experts in the field.
Any advice (good or bad) would be great.
Thanks,
McPhil

While both are good bikes the Griz is an older design while the KQ is among the latest and greatest. Since both sell for about the same price I'd go for the better handling and EFI equiped KQ over the Griz.
You'll probably find the opposite view in the Yamaha forum.

Quite honestly and frankly, the King is just a Grizz that has been improved in virtually every aspect except overall ground clearance, where the Yamaha still has a slight edge. Everything else; power, handling, suspension, stability, EFI, sealed oil-bathed rear brake, etc. is an upgrade to the 660, in my opinion. I think for close to the same price it's a no-brainer. Just make sure you get a different air filter thrown in with the deal.

McPhil,
Welcome to the forum.
The stock air filter is letting dust/dirt get past it and into the motor. Most guys want the added performance of an aftermarket filter any way, so it is not a big deal for most to just change it anyway.
I was split between a Grizzly and the King when i was looking at getting back on a ATV after not owning one for a long time. I spent a lot of time on a Grizzly of a friend and I went to test ride a King. That ended the debate for me. I bought the King and would do the same thing again. Not that anything is wrong with the Grizzly, it is a great ATV. I think the King does everything the Grizzly does and in most cases it does it better. IMO The Grizzly does have a little more ground clearance but that was not very high on my priority list.
Have you looked at the NYROC forum?
Thanks
David

The Grizz is a great machine. I almost bought one last year. My research of the 05 KQ changed my mind. My best friend had a Grizz so I've spent allot of time on one. The biggest reason to go with the KQ is the EFI. The other reasons are old tech vs new tech. The KQ also has a great quality of ride. I've taken my machine on 150 mile one day rides and I still have enough energy to keep on going. I'd still keep on going but the wife and kids want some face time too.
My friend who owned the Grizz sold his this spring so he could get a quad with EFI. If Yamaha would come out with a new Grizz with EFI, I'd seriously look at buying it. In the very near future we will see a Yamaha that will truely compete with the new big bore boys. They better hurry up.
If you go with the King, you will not want to stop riding it.
